just outta curiosity if you dont include the initial cost of the box, how much does the conversion parts and everything cost? also does the tunnel need mods? (probably should have read the whole thread before posting this)

Those photos look familiar! That is my Torana that Mal Wood fitted the T56 to.

I like your pipes
Do they rub on the handbrake mechanism and cable ?

Good to see there not too much in the way of oil leaks and crap under there too
You need to keep a tidy underside. lol

No, the handbrake mechanism & cable don't rub on the pipes. It does look a bit deceiving in the photo.

I agree with your post however finding a second hand bell let alone a new is next to impossible. I have had the chance to see one though. My modified unit is not too different to the OE.

Datto, If those pics are of Mal's bell I would not agree that it is Holden 5 litre specific. You can clearly see in the pic the bell is made for a chev block with starter on the right. By the way, do you know what Mal is charging for that 'crrect' bell.

No further updates from my side. Dont think I will have much time in the next two months. Spent a fortune on buying a new garage for the Torana on the weekend. Me and the misses have also decided to live in the adjoining rooms at the back.

I'm not suggesting that you source a 2nd hand one, as you say that would be next to impossible.

I know that they still sell them new, not sure on the price, but I do have the part number.

If your unit fits OK, then it will be worth the effort. Good work.

i have been talking to Dellow Automotive about this conversion......they sent me out a booklet, and according to them, maybe some else can confirm this. the early model box in the vr vs commy had a 130mm length front shaft, whereas the current/ newer box's have a 170mm length shaft.

they charge $550 + GST for their belhousing.

DR terry: can you PM me that part number would be interesting to know what holden sells them for. even though it couldnt be used with the newer box due to the increase in shaft length (there may be ways round that tho).

Hi guys I'm currently trying to fit the t56 behind an ls1 in my lh sedan I have the ls1 in ATM fine just wondering how hard it's goin be to have that t56 in there with a crs gearbox crossmember?? Don't want to do any surgery to the car or would another gbox be better suited

Infact... fet things will without surgery that will handle the LS1... cept maybe a TKO600 ... but thats a guess.. can't remember any behind a LS1

surgery time.in fact you can just about make a canoe out of the amount of tunnel you will need to cut out.but it is possible and the replacement tunnel section wont look out of place.
the other day i had to put the reverse lockout soleniod back on the box .cold chisel time i wasnt taking the box out again.
ring mal wood in brissy.ask for paul i think he is very helpfull and will save you some stress.especially his new shifter for the t56 and the pedal with the under dash master setup.he has done all the hard work.

hey i been told on this site that the tko slots straight in but im not sure how it will go on the ls1 with the bellhousing an that?? can anyone show me the pics of a modified tunnel so the t56 fits before an after car is finished please???

I raised the tunnel about an 1.5" (give or take, maybe less) and it's in there fine. I also still run the reverse lockout soleniod on the side (and the skip shift one too, all though I by-passed it in my wiring loom)

No rubbing or odd noises as well.

Just trying to get all these containers done and loaded now so I can get time to cruise around in the car some more, lol....

Oh, and forgot to say...I didn't raise the tunnel too much as in the fact I still run the factory console as well (slightly modified on the bottom is all)

Do you run the factory full length console?? An is there much difference between the hatch an the sedan as far as the tunnel an gearbox to diff go?? Also without modifying the gbox dud your shifter come up in right position or do I have to get mal wood conversion??
