gday all im looking at strengthening the body (chassis)on my lx undecided on wether to build a bolt up kit similiar to castlemaines or weld the box sect in like others do
looking for ppls opinions on wat i should do and pics would b gr8

I have welded in box sections on mine u can have a look sometime when u get a chance

Litre 8 has done some interesting things and well worth a look and a different thing to consider would be looking at the legal requirements for converting a car to convertible in regard to chassis strengthening for a few ideas like adding plates to inner sills around door openings.

I think you will find bolt on kits easier to get compliance with....when you go welding to the chassis you run into problems with stress calcs and weld penetration/cracking probs. An engineered kit would be streets ahead.

In my opinion the main purpose of welding in a box section between the chassis rail and the lower control arm is to reinforce the lower trailing arm mount. It does little to increase the strength of the chassis.
The Rod Shop chassis kit reinforces the lower trailing arm mount bolt and then extends the length of the chassis and half way up the front chassis rails. It is then cross braced by the CRS gearbox crossmember. The result is an increase in bending and torsional strength of the chassis and a reinforced lower trailing arm mount. The CRS kit may be ugly but it is more effective than just welding a box section between the chassis rail and the lower control arm.
