Ok, so i just found out that my tie rod is bent, not my fault, no wonder why i cant stop the tyre from rubbing !
Anyway, can i fit the UC rack without any ill effects like bumpsteer ect.
I know the LH has the rubber rack mount bushes, but that can be changed over, cant it?

Thanks for that.
You say even better, does the UC rack have a better steering ratio or somethink?

The UC rack is solid mounted and the LH ones are rubber mounted. If you are pulling the rack of a UC make sure you get the bolts as the LH bolts wont fit through UC rack without mods.

whoops, I forgot about the bolts!

it is better because it gives a more direct feel as it is solid mounted, not 100% sure about then ratios as there are about 3 different torana ratio's that I know of

How different is the UC rack mounts vs A9X?
Does anyone have a pic of the UC bushes?

So how do I tell if this rack I have is off an A9X or UC?
The rack used the LX captive bolts not the UC ones and they fit straight in.

The bushes arent worn to have elongated enough.

Both my LH and UC front end have captive bolts in the subframe..cant see how it would be any different..there is no way to get in to do up the bolts on the inside I I guess they all have captive bolts...only going on what I see with both front ends.

Rory, the bolts are coach heads, you undo the nuts and poke the bolts inside the subframe and you can reach in where the lower control arm goes and take them out completely.

Ok, great thread so far, I have a UC cross member that I got without steering rack. With thanks to a forum member I got a UC steering rack - I have skimmed HQ discs on UC stubs and HQ Calipers already attached. I now need to bolt the rack to the crossmember. What do I need? Can I get a mounting kit? and if yes what part numbers do I need or which suppliers?

Thanks for any help, getting closer now, front end - check, motor (308 Quadrajet) - check, full rebuild 308 trimatic - check.

The pieces are coming together - next stop is the Diff! Still want to stick with Banjo (DON'T try and talk me out of it!) and Chief Financial Officer has said enough! That said I have a 2.78 Coarse centre and 3.55 fine centre that I will get the guts swapped to make a 2.78 fine. then Axles to suit with HQ pattern, get the drums filled and drilled and I am ready to commission the local panelbeater to knock out a couple of rough spots.

Anyone in WA with a rotisserie for sale to suit an LX would be welcome to drop me a line. Anyone in SW of WA with a torana is also welcome, would love to see what others are doing.

Cheers

The UC rack is solid mount, so you dont need a mounting kit as such. You just need two washers per side and the UC bolts. They have a narrower shank than the LH/LX ones so you will specifically need UC ones to fit a UC rack as the holes in the solid mount are smaller diameter than the LH/LX bolt.

its suposed to be like that.

mine was.

im guessing its to allow a little flex if there is any needed.i also had to run a half inch drill through the bushes on the rack so i could get the subframe bolts through, from memory.id check that before u just go drilling.

i think the uc may have metric and my lx was imperial.the drill only shaved a bit out,to clearance the bolt
