I got this 5 speed conversion with my car when I bought it. It was fitted in the car when the previous owner bought it, but he took it out due to hassels with licensing in NSW without an engineers report. He told me that it was out of a Maserati. If you google search the type number on the compliance plate on the side of the box this model gearbox was used in a Maserati. My question is does anyone know anything about it? Would you use it? What do you think it will cost to repair if it breaks? What sort of horsepower do you think it could handle? Let me know what you all think.
Cheers

Never seen one before but if it's off a Maserati it can probably handle a bit of power. The input shaft looks pretty puny though and the adapter plates on the bellhousing look a liitle dodgy. Also the gap between 1st and 2nd gear is too large for my tastes. I'd try to find out more about what Maserati it is off and see if it is worth anything to collectors.

These were fitted to the VN Group As weren't they?? As far as I know they are an awsome gearbox. Irriplaceable and highly sort after.

Does BMW use ZF gearboxes too? Something in my brayn says maybe?
I agree the adapter looks "dodgey". It doesn't take much misalignment for a gearbox to jump out of 4th gear (in this case).
