Hi

I prefer black as original.

But black, chrome or stainless steel please mount it in the correct place - not too far forward as some do.

My motor runs hotter with stone tray on so I choose to run without it. This means I have to bolt air dam to the mounting holes that should be used to hold stone tray on. I like the look of the air dam there. If you have a xu-1, go the black, any other LC/LJ, go the chrome.

The conservative management at Holden in the 70's commissioned it to be done in Black and to not be as large as Harry wanted it to be. Whether it be GTR or XU1...Though I am not sure GTR's even had an air dam from factory. It might have been just the XU1's as it came with the territory (bobtail, black outs, stickers).

Hi

The front air spoiler was standard on the XU-1 only.

It seems that the prototype XU-1 had the air spoiler much further forward but in the production model it was placed further back on the splash guard to direct air onto the brakes for additional cooling.

I think it was also added to try and keep front of car on the road. Pretty sure at the end of conrod straight, the Torana's were finding it hard to keep the front wheels on the ground.

Not that I get into the LC/LJ's that much, but I prefer the chrome one, for what it's worth.

Yep grrtorana

The primary purpose of an front air spoiler/air dam is to provide a method of breaking the lift properties of fast moving air. Sometimes it is used to minimise drag caused by the drive train, suspension etc. even though a larger frontal area results. It either situation a brake cooling capacity can be incorporated.

I didn't mean it to sound like it was only to cool the front brakes.

back in 70's when XU1s were daily drivers the figures given for airdam was 70 lbs
loading on bonnet and bob tail 130 lbs on boot. don't know if these are correct
but driving mine at 100 mph with and without was very noticeable in road stability.
