G'day all, I found a bunch of pics of my old C pillars, and thought
I might put a few notes on them so you can see what is what.
Surprising that there are (5) panels that make up a pillar!
Also shown is the "ridge" in the 1/4 panel and lack of drain hole that causes
all our babies to eventually rust out. (where outer pillar cover joins 1/4 panel)
Bit confusing, but once you get your bearings, interesting!
Cheers, Leakey

And thats why they are all rusted out..they are a complex water and dirt trapping device
I really hope someone can work out how to reproduce them.

Great photo/diagram Leakey.
Every hatchback had to endure this built in problem which trapped moisture in the C pillar. My hatchback had the same problem that I had to deal with. I removed the outer skin (which you show in blue)
Then I removed the small inner skin section which is directly under the outer skin, as this traps in the moisture. I then made a new section in 0.9 mm mild steel and welded it back into position, follow by a light grind.
I also added a drain hole in the bottom of the rear quarter panel to release any moisture and rust proofed the inside of the C pillar. Hopefully this problem will never return. It's been 5 years since I repaired my hatch and no rust yet.
Regards Mick.

Nice pics Mick.
Wierd to see your car as an orange, flareless machine!!
----------------------
- and Rob, the shots are of the good pillars. The undisclosed new owner of the
pillars will give you what he cuts out when he does it. I'll remind him again!
I think he has the same plan in mind as you.
