I had a bathurst style drop tank on the back of my car. The spare wheel carrier has been cut out. The tank has a rear pickup and its capicity was somewhere in the vacinity of 160 litres.

Thanks for the pics ChevLX_77 I've noticed the difference that your drop tank has straps and is squared off and others are strapless and tapperd do the strapless tanks become the boot floor or are they bolted by the tanks flanges?

The strapless ones, at least ones i have seen, have plates welded to them then they bolt the tank to the chassis rail. I think that ChevLX has a strapless tank on his car.

Filling up with one of those sucker's would be an expensive experience.

Most droptanks that you see aren't square at the back, like as you see above.

Here is a pic of my strapless tank.
All i had to do to fit it was drill four holes in the chassis rails and mod the filler neck.

Race tanks are square, road tanks are angled off to A; stop them hitting things like exiting driveways and B; draw a line from the rear of the car down to the back of the rear tyre and most state laws state that anything protruding the rear of the car past that line is illegal due to point A.

********** 2 basic types ************

Strapped using original tank strap mounts.

Strapless bolting through the chassis rails.

I have seen a range of capacities for both.

Check with your local road authorities before you spend, they are not cheap.

55 litre stocker was a joke.

You should NOT need to stuff with the boot floor where your spare tyre sits.

A Bathurst tank, like that pictured on ChevLX77, is actually not legal for road use, due to non-compliance with rear entry angle. I did some drawings here somewhere of my droptank which is 160L, which includes a diagram on what the rear entry angle is. Dual exhausts are considered part of the body for working out the rear entry angle.

Actually, ChevLX77's tank isn't even a Bathurst type tank, as they had an angle on the front, i.e. toward the rear wheels.

Most droptanks have a cut-out for the spare wheel well, so it doesn't need to be removed.

Obviously over the years, peeps have had their own ideas on how to make em.

One thing to note about the Brown Davis tank is that you have to cut off the original rear strap mounts which are spot welded to the floor.

^ Why? I take it you are talking about the ones behind the rear beaver panel. Tank should sit in front of these, shouldn't need to remove them.

The Brown Davis tank does not sit in front of the strap mounts, it goes all the way to the beaver panel. The tank is the same shape as the chassis rails which narrow towards the diff, so there is no option to move it forward.
