I'm in the process of attempting to restore my UC SL/T to as close to show-room condition as I can get (there are some things I can't restore, but they'll just have to stay as they are), and this means either refitting the 5.5" steelies and hubcaps or fitting the 6" alloys that were an factory (or dealer) option on the UC when I ordered it.

The wheels I was offered as an option in one dealership were the same ones they fitted to the Sunbird SL/E, but as I already had a set of Globe RallyMasters that I was going to remove from my LC, I declined their kind offer. The Globes look good on the UC, but they aren't the right wheel if I want things authentic (besides the inner stick on weights foul the rear calipers).

I just bought a set of the Sunbird SL/E alloy wheels from another forum member (thanks Carl), and I want to refinish the wheels before I fit them, but I'm not sure about the correct finish. The set that were fitted to the GTR-X at Birdwood appear to be just the raw cast (or etched) alloy finish with a polished (or brushed) outer rim and inner ring.

Crappy image, but it was the best I could find on the net that showed the wheels.

Does anybody have information or clear photographs of the Sunbird SL/E wheels in as delivered condition? Does anybody have photographs or details on the correct black wheel-nuts?

My son's UC had SL/E wheels on it when we got it. The car is an SL/E Sunbird and the wheels were as you have described. P.M. Heath, he has one on his car, and might post a better pic?

yeah my GF's UC SLE had SLE Wheels on it with the original wheel nuts (i guess they are as everything else on hte car was stock as a rock!)

If heath doesnt have the right pic i can get a real good pic of what the wheel nuts look like. They are Black and sought of have maybe 2-3 lined grooves around them,,,

The pic shows the sle wheel thats being lying outside a while, with a soft scrub it would look brand new, the only smooth bits are the outside of the rim.

Ive nearly got enough of the nuts to make up two sets...some better some worse than pic ^, you'd really want to repaint them for a restore job.

If you want to sell a set of 20 let me know.

They appear to be just black finished versions of the ones used on some of the GTS models. New chromed reproductions are $70 per set on eBay.

Hmm, when I went out to the shed to round em all up, some of them had grown legs. Anyway still had 20. As you can see none of them are brand new, but dont look to shabby once they are on a wheel. It would be a bit of work to clean em all up and paint them. Perhaps just hitting the newer ones with a tin of black spray paint would be easier and touching them up after they have been attacked by wheel braces several times.
In the pic you can see a chrome nut that I have fitted to a set of uc sle mags, IMO they look better than the black nuts on a clean sle wheel and would have got them in the original style if they were available at the time........didnt have the extra black ones I have atm then either. There is/was a guy in cranbourne called Mr Lugnut....he may be worth a call.

I have a set of four in good condition on the LX S. Don't have all the wheel nuts though. We are using Commodore 15" steel rims, although looking at the new regs best be making that 16". PM me if you want to make an offer on em (I've got a race car to fund).

I know, but Rares wants $167.36 for a set of 20. I have a possible source of chrome repros for $70 per set of 20, and I'm currently enquiring to see if they can supply them in black.
