Have a console out of a L 31 LX that has had the front hacked off it to fit an aftermarket air con to the car -- apparently there are a couple of types -- can any body tell me which type this is
Cheers

Hatch is different to the sedan version as the front has a different section to house the vents and escutchion switches.
Then there is the V8/6 version and the 4 cylinder version.
So basically there are 4 variants.
REDBULL has some good pictures.
That one you have is the type that belongs in the round file.

There's the small consoles that are about the same size as your current one too!

Notice how one is flat at the bottom, the other is more sculpted. The flat one is HJ-WB, the sculpted is Torana.

This pic shows a hatchback console on the right and a Sunbird (sorry it's broken though) one on the left

This is the small shifter surround you need for the early console. This is also the same as the hatch one. For a sedan it has a small lid that opened forward of it.

This is the one you need for the later sedan consoles introduced around the time of RTS
https://rsp-secure.com/rarespares/
go to the website, look up torana and consoles you will see all the parts you need.

Yep -- definatly have the top console in the last photo
Do i need the Early console or the later ??
Looked in the rare spares site -- they only have bits -- looks like i need the whole unit
Thanks again for the discussion and help -- much appreciated

With the console you had fitted were you able to change gears without the shifter hitting the console? If you have the small surround and it doesn't hit, chase a small surround console. Yes Rares have everything bar the actual console to suit your car. Sorry I don't have a pic on me of the correct console setup

Bought the car about six years ago -- it had been sitting since about '92
The previous owner having parked it up after loosing oil pressure via a leak and ending up with a slight knock in the bottom end
Me and it have never fired a shot in anger and am slowly getting a bit of stuff together to hit it one day -- but not up here as it will have to be done in the big smoke -- that side of it is pretty well sorted plus the old girl is still in pretty good nick
This being the problem -- i see consoles on E-- bay etc.. and dont know weather i would be buying the right thing or not and as you know, they don't seem to be cheap for one in good condition.
I couldn't tell you if it would have hit as it did have a supra box in it when i bought it (now gone ) and i have the m 21 to go in to bring it back the way god intended
Sorry not being much help -- and yep the photo from someone would be great
