Howdy All,
To add to my last thread. Just purchased a set of SLR hudcaps. Because I got them at a good price I was going to clean them up. I just need to know a few things -
a. Are LH/LX SLR hudcaps the same?
b. Can you find replacement centres anywhere, if not
c. Do they cross match with any other model Holden.
d. Where would the best place to buy a set of new 13" wheeltrims from so I can throw the old ones away & pop rivet a new/better set on.
d. As I don't need them for my own Torana, when cleaned up & resprayed what would they be worth?

Yes

No (don't think so), but I believe you can part out of a different style centrecap and install it.

No

Not sure

A few hundred dollars... depending on where you sell it and how the market behaves on that occasion :P

a. I believe so.

b. I beleive the Torana LH LX SL chrone outer rims are the same.
I have tried swapping the outer rims from a SL hubcap on a SLR centre.
I remember that it was hard to pop rivet the outer rim to the SLR plastic centre without splitting the holes where the pop rivets go through the pastic centre.
The pressure that a pop rivet uses was too much for the plastic to handle & cause it to split. It did still hold together though.
DONT TRY & BUY NEW OUTER DRSES RIMS FROM AUTOBARN, SUPERCHEAP, RARES etc.- they are not teh same profile as the original Holden ones & the plastic SLT centre wont sit in there too happily.

c. I beleive the Torana LH LX SL chrone outer rims are the same.

d. No- as far as i know & apart from 'c'

e. I have seen a set of four sell anywhere between $80- $300, depends on whose looking & how badly they want them.

i have also purchased a set of SLR hubcaps, all in perfect cond exept the gutter scrapes on the trim. i was looking at an sl hubcap and it seems to be rounder and not as deep dished, im 95% sure SL hubcaps arent the same.

i am also looking for a set of trims that are the same dish/profile as original,
if anyone would have the slightest clue where i can get them from please help.

cheers, SLR_6.

I have used a SL hubcap in the past & found it to have the same outer ring/ dress rim as a SLR hubcap.

AFAIK they are the same.

My tip is to track down the thinnest pop rivets you can find and do a test on something else plastic.

You could try to file the shank of the rivet so its thinner..and you can push the stem out backwards and modify the section that breaks away.

I thought Rare Spares was in the process of reproducing them? They have just done the HK-HT Monaro ones.
Cheers,

what about if you heat the plastic up a bit with a heat gun before putting the rivets in..that way it may not crack

Put the rivets in while the plastic is still warm
