I am fitting a VN-Headed 308 into an LC/LJ.
I've bought a hi-energy sump, and also bought some extractors from Castle Auto (also Rod Shop / Jet Hot) extractors. The problem is that the hole for the dipstick tube is in the worst possible spot! Anyone else come across this problem?
What did you do?

I am considering slicing up my brand new sump, and welding it on the other side (where there is a little bit more room). But I would have preferred if Hi-Energy had designed this right from the beginning! Any comments / ideas?

I have the same problem, I have reshaped the dipstick but it's not a good solution, a friend of mine has cut his down to about 3" and remarked it again hardly satisfactory :(
Would love to know of a decent solution that wont cost the earth or mean removing parts.

Thanks for the quick replies! Keep 'em coming.

I'm pretty sure I will be moving it to the other side. The passenger side doesn't have the steering column or starter motor.

I looked into the flexible dipsticks. Its still too tight for one of those.
Basically the dipstick would have to bend REALLY sharply as soon as it comes out of the sump. The flexible ones are not that good. They also have a fairly solid fitting right where it goes into the sump, so it doesn't start to bend straight away.

I will probably have to use a flexible one anyway, even if I move it to the other side. We'll see.

I rebent & had to crush the tube for mine(hq tube & dipstick),mine has vs hsv headers thoiugh.Other thing I was going to try was use the commodore dipstick & tube then re-mark them or move it to passenger side like commodores are.

Is this issue just confined to LC/LJ's? I'm fitting VN block/heads using pacemaker extractors into LX. I haven't done anything with a sump as yet.

I have the same problem running VN type heads on a 253 block in an LX sedan.
Winged sump and the extractors I am using are modified VN - VS factory.
