First of all we must differentiate between rare and desirable.

Desirable and Rare would be XU-1 Bathurst spec, A9x etc etc.

G-Pak's are rare, in the sense their weren't many made...but not desirable enough to ask a premium price.

Did that answer your question?

I should add, their worth more than a standard LH/LX but not as much as say a SLR-5000. They do look cool with the stripes I must say.

:D tubsy,

Rare, yes they are you dont see too many about, often referred to as the poor mans or poverty pak SLR.

As an example at Tornafest 2007 out of 154 cars only one to my knowledge was a G Pak, Ron and Elaine Helliard's Green and Green one (immaculate).

Last years Toranfest saw only 2 G Paks, Ron and Elaine's and the awesome G-String (Yellow and Black). Dont know why it didnt come this year?

I have a Red and Blue G Pak in my shed awaiting restoration and they come in two other colour combinations of yellow and black and green and green both of the latter being in my mind the better colour schemes.

Whilst I dont necessarily prefer the red and blue scheme I will keep it for originality. Tthe greatest dificulty in a respray will be replicating the masking of the blue highlights as they are not a sticker and I dont know if anybody is making masks for them. This could explain why many have disappeared in that they have probably been painted a single colour!

They are not so desirable as to be as dear as an SLR but should pull a better price than a six cylinder s or sl.

If you want rare when was the last time anyone saw a Plus 4??

Garry, hawks made masking kits a while back. I haven't seen him here for a while, but I'm sure you'll be able to get onto him somehow...

OH COME ON!!!

In YOUR opinion they may not be desireable. There were actually 2 G pak's at the Toranafest...one in the show and it was tops (same as yours Tubsy) and there was mine on the trailer ..with the for sale sign on it...the one I got heaps of phone calls about...the one where people swarmed around when I opened it up...the one I took good money for.

Your giving Tubsy the impression his car is worthless...and that is definately NOT the case.

I guess the question is how rare were they, or how rare are they now? I remember when they were new, we actually had one. I seem to remember there were about four or 5 around town at the time, and around the same number of SLR5000's. As with most cars however, flares were fitted along with other mods, and the cars were no longer identifiable as GPACKS. How many SLR5000's were at Toranafest? How many of those were original? You could easily work that out walking around. How many GPACK's were at Toranafest? And how many were original? There may have been another five GPACKS there modified to the point of no longer being identifiable as they had no special markings on tags, while SLR's did. As for desirable, desire, like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I'd personally love to get my familys old GPACK back if it still exists.

In the early 80's i worked with a guy who had a yellow G pak. He didn't like the strips & people used to bag him out & call it a gay pak.

So he had the sides of the car resprayed to remove the strips

So there was nothing on tags or anything that identified it as a G-Pack?

So if thats the case, You could paint up your SL in the G-Pack scheme and call it a G-Pack?

That was hawks, with the Gunmetal Simmons'. That thing looked immaculate.

I'm not a fan of the Green/Green, but I love the Red/Blue and Yellow/Black.

I like G-Paks, I wouldn't mind having one, if it was as tough as GSTRNG. The paint scheme is cool and they come decked out with an SLR interior.

They are as rare as if not rarer than an A9x or XU-1 <Probably more XU-1's than G-Pak's>. In terms of value though, not close. I stick by my statement of more than an SL LH/LX but not as much as an SLR5000.

:D jbird,

I agree with you and wonder where G String is?

The colour thing is as we can see is a personal preference thing and my G Pak will be restored to original, I bought it from Coonamble and it was 100% complete including rust!!!

Thanks RIM 010 where can I contact HAWKS about the mask?

My son took some shots of that car at the Summernats this year, the Simmons wheels were still on it and I did remark that it looked good, but put that down to the wheels not the colour.

Now here is a conundrum, my G Pak has an SS console in it and I have wrecked other G paks with the same consoles yet others do not have them?

My G Pak was owned by an Older Lady and I could not see her changing the console and these consoles were only vailable in hatches ie LX so how do LH G Paks end up with them?

What about the Plus 4 issue who has seen one of them lately?

The hatchback style console wasn't released till LX so there is no way it's original
LX sunbirds had them too, not just hatches.

You could fake a G pak..but you need the right car to do it with due to the time of year they were made. The date and the trim would give them away....its not to say there were no base models with black interior made around the back end of 74..but it cuts down the possibilities.

Apart from that black dashes and good consoles are pulling good money, stock front seats in the right style rare as now.

Talk to Moot, I believe they are family-related.

Yes, that is what must be conveyed here. Well said

 REDA9X,

Your probably correct about the consoles they must have been later conversions beacuse of the years they were available ie after LH.

Means I now have a spare hatchback console

I dont suggest they are worthless but I would expect they would pull a price less than an SLR of similar condition.

As for trim I am pretty sure you could get a plain black vinyl (18W?) on any model...things peculiar to G Pak's were things like the lack of a rear arm rest, the bolstered sides and pattern (not trim pattern) of the seats.

I did look very closly at that car and the basket weave trim i am pretty sure was not in any other car on the weekend...but neither was the star pattern seats i had in mine...i looked.

We need a trim library.

Dealerships called them the "arbage pack". I loved the car as a kid. I remember seeing our car on the lot at the local Holden dealership (Warrington motors) the day we bought it, and I remember the day it was sold to the local Mitsubishi dealership (Skermon motors). Niether of those exist any more, but the old Warrington Motors building is still there.
