Hello everyone.

Does anyone know what the normal weight is for an LH SLR 5000? I have the original manual and it only gives weight for the 6cyl models of 1183kgs.

Also does anyone know if bigger wheels than the 6" wide were offered as an option?

cheers

Dr Terry

Do you have any documents to show to the licencing department?

Get a weighbridge certificate. That's what I had to do.

Yella weighs 1300kg on the knocker. Maybe needs to go on diet.

Hi Guys.

I'll dig up the paperwork & see if that will help.

One reason why the official figures are always lower than the real world numbers is that official weights are based on absolutely stock cars i.e. no accessory or options, except what came as standard. For example, no radio (they weren't standard for LH SL/R), no bumper over-riders, no mudflaps or anything. Nothing in the glovebox or boot etc.

Quite often, the factory figures are 'guessed'. What I mean by that is, they might know the exact weight of an L20 SL/R & they know that a V8 weights says 70 kg more. All they do to get the weight of an L32 SL/R, is get the known L20 weight & add 70 kg. They haven't actually put a real V8 car on a weighbridge, but the 'guestimate' would be very close

As andy says we need evidence to prove that is what the weight is for Licensing permits

1183kgs is the weight of an SLR 6 cylinder model, that info comes from the original LH user manual. Obviously the V8 models are going to be heavier.

Dr. Terry your numbers would seem close to being correct so if you know where i can get evidence please let me know.

cheers

HI Guys.

The 14 x 6 wheels in LH were L34 only with HQ axles & front stub axles.

The std wheel was 13 x 4.5. SL/R (Incl 5000) got 13 x 5.5 plus there was a 13 x 6 'heavy duty' option. This was the largest optional factory wheel for an LH. The Hotwires etc were all aftermarket, not GM-H. There was a Jelly Bean style alloy available in LX, but it too was only 13 x 6.

Some engineers & RTA types will know that you car hasn't got L34 axles etc & won't let you get away with the 14x 6 being the max wheel size.

The thing is that engineering does not ask for axles it asks for largest optional wheel/tyre.

the stub axles on the front were no different for an L34 than standard torana according to the parts maual. although i have CRS drop stubs anyway

as for the rear mine is commodore everything but they will not allow me to use a 235/45/17 (VR GTS) as an optional tyre. This means that axle design does not come into their decision. that only makes sense if they are using car weight as the deciding factor which would obviously be based mainly for wet weather driving and aquaplaning with wider tyres.

thanks for the info Dr. Terry, I would still like to see any info on the LH SLR 5000 weight

cheers

For whatever reason they wanted weight of driver car and fuel, so 1,200 kg's is probably spot on.

The good news is there is a test for wider wheels now that Engineer's can undertake for wider wheels. It's the new National Light Car Modification Regulations.

I can remember in Vic. every time you wanted to reg. a car you had to get a weighbridge ticket. The local grain store had a weighbridge. Used to make sure the car was heavy as it was about power to weight to work out rego.

i rang the rta to get the weight of a v8 lh and they go off 1205kg.

so to find max engine capacity its 1205x4.86=5.856 litres.

if anyone has something offical for a v8 sedan of factory description (cant be a weigh bridge ticket, has to be holden info etc) please let me know as i'd love a big block :D

Not sure where the 4.86 came from.

NCOP
http://www.infrastru...n/vsb_ncop.aspx

Quote from Section LA Engines 3 Feb 2006

Maximum engine capacity is based on the original tare of the model vehicle fitted with the largest engine available without optional accessories.

Less than 800kg
Naturally aspirated = kg * 3
Turbo/Supercharged = kg * 2.5

Between 800kg and 1100kg
Naturally aspirated = kg * 4
Turbo/Supercharged = kg * 2.75

More than 1100kg
Naturally aspirated = kg * 5
Turbo/Supercharged = kg * 3

They approved the 6lt LS2 for my hatch using 1204 * 5 = 6020 cc.
