Ok whats different to standard 308 ones?

just checked L34 supplement and there is no different listing. So just get standard Torana V8 ones.

When you find someone who can supply the original "torana" V8 hoses, please let us all know where to get them.

All that I have found available is the general purpose one from mackay that has just one bend about 3 inches from the end that you can cut to your required length.

If you see a picture of REDA9X's engine bay you will see that the Original hoses leave the firewall towards the radiator for about 3 inches then they do a 90 deg turn up towards the bonnet, then after 3-4 inches they do a 90 deg turn towards the passenger side bonnet hing. Run to the passenger side rocker cover and then turn towards the front of the car again and follow the rocker cover to the thermostat and pump connections.

It shows it correctly in the GMH parts book.

Part #'s
Heater inlet to manifold(thermo)--9928623
Heater outlet to water pump --9943976

Above is pre emission ie L34.

Emission is more complex as a valve is used in the heater outlet plumbing to heat up the engine quicker by not running water throught the heater until the engine has warmed up.

I can post up those numbers to but unless you have the valve the numbers are useless and may lead to confusion. They are sure to be NLA any way.

Good luck.

Cheers.

could you insert a spring and heat the shaped bends into them?

The ones from Mackay do you have a pic to show what they turned out like?

No picture at the moment.

I ran straight out from the heater and crossed over behind the carby to the passenger side rocker cover. (Coil is now mounted out the drivers side near rocker cover--Not the best)

Then to the thermostat with one hose and the other to the pump.

The hose that runs to the pump is where I used the 90 deg bend at the pump.

The other is just a straight run, the bend I cut off.

Overall, I am not to happy with this layout but it is the best I can do for now.

Mind you, the original factory job is ugly too.

PS spring insertion I can understand but heating "rubber" to shape?? Let us know how you go.

Cheers

This pic is from the LH parts book. It has two hoses shown under number 1. One is for a 4.2 and the other is the 5 litre.

I found one from a Commodore V8 that suits the LX V8. Just had to cut the end off. I was also told the early V8 Commodores are the same or very similar to the Torana's. Maybe go to a Holden dealer and see if they have some that you may be able to adapt.

This is the LX type that The Baron was talking about.
Baron, I spoke to a guy at the Masters this year. He said he buys his hoses from Holden under the Commodore part numbers.

There is a difference between the L34 and the A9X heater hoses. The hoses on the L34 leave the heater box and run down beside the right hand tappet cover. One attaches to the thermostat housing and the other to the outlet on the water pump. As long as the hose has a 90degree bend at one end and is straight at the other it will be okay. No other hoses are needed as the manifold is not water heated, the holes are blocked off. I think hoses off an early model commodore will fit.

Do a search on this site. Mick (RedA9X) posted some pics of the different set ups previously. Can the Mods make that post a sticky, it was quite informative.

This hose is from a commodore. On an original Torana (A9X style) the hose bend 90degress and then curved over the distributer then along the tappet cover and took an almost 90degree turn around the accelerator bracket to the thermostat housing. The Torana ones have been unavailable for years, and the Commodore ones just dropped off about a year ago. The second hose running beside it however that runs to the water pump is available at any auto store. All you can do is cut it to size and bend it round the accelerator bracket.
The L34 however only has one outlet on the water pump, that one goes direct to the heater core. The one coming from the thermostat housing runs into the manifold on the drivers side. On the passenger rear the water comes out and goes to the heater core. Hope thats of some help. I have no idea what hoses are available there.

The hoses I have used/modified are part #92026765. They look similar to the one in RED's phone but only have one bend.

I tried the layout RED used but due to the extra bends being missing, they looked and lay poorly.

All sorted now thanks.

It seems they dont even have a listing for V8 LH/X torana heater hoses, only an upper and low radiator hose in the replacement parts books at repco and auto one.
