Am about to finish paint the SLR 5000 next week. Between the black bonnet and the screen is the black panel with the grilles up through which come the wipers. Under that is the panel with the wiper fittings, etc. that you can see through the grille. Should that under panel be the colour of the car (mint julep) or black? I am thinking the colour of the car, but, am not sure. Can someone please advise. Thanks Ron

I think he means the bit underneath that grill panel

As you can see here, this car is body colour and it's original paint. On the A9X this area was masked off to avoid the black going down in there.

Early LX had black engine bays. If it's later, the engine bay is completely body colour. The radiator support should be black so when you look through the grill you don't see body colour. They used to just flash it in with the gun, not masked at all.

ok thanks, also the black on the bonnets of a9x hatchs apears different to the sedans in where it finishs on the guards. was this so on all of the a9x hatchs. i can remember the castrol a9x hatch had the bonnet painted like the sedans, as to where the black finished. is it a one off, or was it changed after it left the factory? cheers

The Castrol hatch was a race shell and so when it left the factory it was all white. You'll notice it has no chrome trims around the side windows, this is whay it's painted like a sedan. If you paint a hatch that has the chrome trims like a sedan, the black comes down below the chrome trims and it looks all wrong.
