Hi there everybody, I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me trace the true history of my genuine L34.

Way back in 1995 when I was 18 years old I was lucky enough to track down and purchase a genuine L34. I purchased the car from a Police Officer and as it turns out the 2 previous owner before him both live in the same town as myself. All 3 of them have told me the same thing; That the car was originally Allan Grice's old Bathurst car and for a very long time I believed that to be true. That was until a couple of years ago when i was informed by a memeber of the A9X Owners Association of Australia that this was incorrect. He claimed that the car was in fact raced by the owner of the Holden Dealership that had the car for sale.

Unfortunately due to my last computer blowing up I have lost all communications and contact details of the people that helped supply bits of information about my car's history so I'm hoping that someone here can help me discover the definitive story of my car's history.

Below is all the information that I do have;

PRODUCTION DATE: 21-6-1974

RETAIL DATE: May 1975 from Blanchard Holden, Springvale Victoria. (Apparently Blanchard Holden sold a total of 3 L34's.)

VIN: 8D69ZDJ432931H

MODEL: SLR 4 Door sedan

ENGINE: 308ci (5047cc) variant 2 L34

ORIGINAL ENGINE NUMBER: Unknown

CURRENT ENGINE NUMBER: N780019P (I've been told by the A9X club that this is a number desiginated by NSW Police for cars that have been stolen or that have no engine number.) I don't
know if that's correct or not?

TRANSMISSION: 2.54:1 4 speed manual variant 2

BRAKES: Disc (front wheel)

PAINT: Glacier White

And that's about all that I know for certain, I've heard heaps of stuff about the car over the years but take 99% of it with a grain of salt!

I've included a few photo's of the ID Tags and a letter from Holden to show that I'm genuine and not full of crap. I really hope someone here can help me unlock the secrets of the car or at least be able to point me in the right direction.

P.S. I contacted CAMS once with all the above info but they never even bothered to reply! :(

best of luck in your search, it is a timely process finding old history. i to am having trouble with mine. you would think being the only 214 code l34 being owned by gmh for 11mths that someone would remember it. the same as yours being a x racecar.

The engine number is definitely one issued by NSW Police for a engine or chassis that has no number. What is the cast date on the block?

Just above the timing cover inbetween that and the manifold. Should be something like 21N4 or something like that.

Ok I've just had a look and the cast date reads 22C7 so what does that mean?

A = January
B = February
C = March
D = April
E = May
F = June
G = July
H = August
J = Septemer ('I' is missed as it may be confused with '1')
K = October
L = November
M = December

Absolutley Correct.

Ok so that definitely rules out the possibility of the block being the original one. That's a real shame.

Shame, but at least you have an L34. Infinitely preferable to an SLR with an L34 engine!

Is that fishy in a "sounds like a fake" or fishy in a "hmmm could be something special / unique" kind of way?

If it was checked where i said, it could be the site.
The year for my Lh comes up as incorrect number as well, but its not incorrect.

I just got the same result.

I'm guessing the date code has been programmed wrong and the engine codes don't have the Z for the L34 engine.

I think you'll find the Z is for the L34 motor, the D is for 1974

Where your Z is mine is a T

Yours is a L34

Mine a SLR 5000

My engine number Is HT

And yours should be HZ

I'm not sure if they changed The T to a Z for l34's

The D is for 1974

E is for 1975
