A close friend of mine has what he believes to be the only LX convertable that GMH produced as a proto, his wife also is convinced that this is the case.

The car requires restoration and is partly stipped , The car is based on a 4dr and not a 2dr as expected.

They have been offered been 80k in its current state and have been told that in a restored state it would be 200k +

They are the owners of a L31 and 34 and have owned many over the yrs.

They could sence my disbelief and continued to assure me its for real....... Yeah right :<_<:

Is there any proof this didn't exist ??? or are they sitting on something that is very very rare

What do you think ??? i have seen convertables that were converted many yrs after manufacture

Guys i doubt its factory, it has been in their family for some yrs and ...... maybe they believe it to be original however its not the case,

Their is something in my previous post that is incorrect, they are not close friends .....they are from the outlaw side of the family as of today

The coversation came up last night and im sure it will continue tonight after a few ....and though im not here to score points .. its going to look  if im

proved wrong ...as far as the pics ...yip we would all see a convertable but what does that prove...that is a torana without a roof

(will see if i can get some pics however its 600km away) The tags maybe the answer .it should have BVR or SVR on it i think

What gets me is that they have been offered 80K and they all say that its correct.

Can you ask them to take photos of it? (if they live with it). Surely they wouldn't mind if you told them that there were many 'intrigued' members of the Torana enthusiast community that would love to find more about it?

I mean I struggle to believe that it is true, but I'm willing to be proved wrong, especially if it looks good!

That photo brings back memories (can even see a bit of one of my cars in the photo). It sure was a club-type project. It was built mainly by a current forum member in South Australia. I drove it from Adelaide to Canberra for the Summernats in the 90's-through the night across the Hay plain (wrapped in a blanket for some of the journey as it got pretty cold). We hit about 10 bunnies on that drive, but the car never missed a beat. Never had so much fun...

Sure as hell wasnt factory though.

There was of course the 3-door LC :wtf: that was made at Acacia Ridge in Brisbane BUT that was a production line error and that car was crushed.

Now how much would that Torana be worth now  with 2-doors one side and 1-door on the other.

I found out the above information from an ex-worker from the Acacia Ridge Assembly Plant.

Official source from the factory or GMH might settle this one.

Regards ............ Barry

Leakey,

Where did you find these pics ?? It was a long time ago I posted them up.

WOTTOP was one of the most fun cars & cheapest cars we ever built, BB173, column auto, 4 wheel drums with factory fitted 2.78 LSD !!

All built for under a grand finished without rego.

Did over 10,00kms in 12 months & never missed a beat. It even made one of the summernats songs & film clip.

bally253 got frost bite & sun stroke within 24hrs driving it to Summer Nats.

Its probably a Nissan skyline now, we stripped it & crushed it after 12 months,, the cops got a bit upset at defecting the same car 3 times before they worked out it was the same car !!

Craig.

Craig, I'm a compulsive Torrie pic "saver". So when I see 'em I save 'em.

Cant recall where I first saw them?
