Im doing an engine conversion, the conversion mounts bolt to the original mounts which this engine will tear in half after a while
Anyone know if anyone makes nolathane type ones?

You can get polly ones but they are crap. Don't bother with them.
If you're really keen make some solid steel ones.
I have seen a few with rubber engine mounts and a chain welded from the block to the chassis rail to limit torque twist.
Otherwise a lot of jappers use dampers (little gas shockies) from the engine to the chassis. Maybe you could adapt one of those???

A lot of the custom engine mounts I've seen use simple round bushes with bolts and crush tubes so that it is always captive, and they hold the engine much more firmly while still being fully bush mounted to avoid some vibration.

I've seen much better implementations than the second pic but can't find them at present, you get the idea.

Solid mounts would solve the problem, and despite what you might think, the vibration is not really any more noticeable.

Had the same thought about eng mounts when i did my RB30 conversion because the 202 mounts/rubbers have to be used, but the biggest problem was, i needed to limit the amount the engine moved or twisted (due to tight clearances) on hard acceleration . :burnout:

I looked at all the rubber ones i could find (inc genuine holden) i didnt want nolathane, and the best i liked in rubber are the Kelpro ones i found at super cheap,i used the later model ones with the saftey stops.

I guess ive probably done almost 15,000Ks with over 400rwhp on these mounts ,they have seen heaps of 1/4 mile track time, inc 3days with a car full at powercruise, Just checked them the other day and no cracks etc.

I've used shackle rubbers to make this sort of thing before; they're failsafe and soft enough to absorb the vibrations. I think solid mounts in a street car would soon get annoying; I once fitted a solid strut with rose-jointed ends to a big-block to limit the movement on the stock mounts. The strut stopped the exhaust from banging into the steering shaft at full throttle but the vibrations it transmitted were quite noticeable.
Another thing to watch with solids (apart from with an engine plate) - it's surprising how much flex and movement there is in the crossmember or subframe of some cars. You could easily feed some pretty serious stresses into the block if the side mounts are too stiff or solid. Some of the old american GM cars had crossmembers about as stiff as a piece of paper..

Is it possible/has anyone seen a 6 cyl mounted on an engine plate?

The late model factory mounts with the interlock will not let go even if you somehow manage to snap the rubber. I would only make you own if an engine mount is not available with an interlock.

This is the case with the LSX mounts to suit the Torana, the rubber used by CAE and CRS does not have an interlock. I purchased the bottom half of a Velocity Auto's Tuff mount and made the top half to suit the LSX.

Its odd that anyone would manufacture them without the interlock these days, I had a mate with an old Val who wondered why the fan kept hitting the shroud - turned out that it had broken the rubber and every time he gave it a rev it lifted the engine on that side! :o

What are he bushes in the Tuff Mount/Velocity mounts? (Part No./application)
I might look at making some like them. $345 is a lot of money for engine mounts, I'm certain they wouldn't cost anywhere near that to make. Might be able to make some more as well if anyone else is interested??? They will be considersbly cheaper than that and come with my renowned 1-2 warranty (once you fit 'em, too f#cken bad) or optional Concrete warranty (once you're off my concrete, warranty is void). :badabing:
Need to know what those bushes are first though please.

I work at an Auto Pro store when Im back in Perth

When I get back Ill go through the nolathane stock out the back to let you know what I think will work

These are the ones I designed recently to fit under the turbo on my holden 6.

The metal is 5mm laser cut steel and the bushes are nolathanes (forgotten part number but they come with the internal sleave).

I used two nolathane bushes to counter the imbalanced moment caused by the engine side of the mount being well inside the chassis side of the mount. I have however only done the passenger side mount as the drivers mount will be in compression anyway (and I don't have the space restriction on that side of the motor that I have on the other).

At the moment I have replaced the nolathane bush with a rod of wood of the same dimensions so that I didn't hurt the real bush during welding of the tube onto the bracket.

Engine plates are legal in QLD, not so much elsewhere. Check with a local engineer before fitting one for street use.

I asked these guys recently, the bushes are a front control arm bush from an early Magna.
