It's from a HG ute or van between about 6/71 and 11/71. HG's were sold alongside HQ's until HQ commercials were released. There is someone here or at Fastlane looking for one of these engines for their HG.

If the number is misread as Gl instead of Ql it is nothing special. I have never heard of GL 202 engine numbers but at the end of the HG HOldens GMH fitted 202 engines to some of them, if this is a 202 and the numbrer really is GL it would be a little bit rare?

There's a GL prefix block like this at my brothers work and it was removed from his factory 202 powered HG ute.

Rare for sure, but desirable? Maybe to someone with a late HG ute but otherwise you wouldn't think so.

Whether it's rare or not is not what makes it worth something, it's coming from a car that is valuable that seems to make GMH engines expensive. QM or QS prefix blocks are "rare" too, but are they valuable? A GL or GD or GM or GE block is probably 10 x rarer than a HT prefix block, yet people really want HT prefix blocks. Someone will want that GL block, but it really is worth no more than any other 202 block except to someone who is doing an anal resto on the van or ute it originally came from. My advice would be to put it on Ebay for $250 and buy a HQ 202 to use for $50, not to make $200 but to help out someone looking for one. Karma I suppose might reward you!
