FORD POWERED TORANA

Surprisingly i didn't cop much flack about putting the clevo in the torana so here we go again. As stated in last thread, most tuff toranas don't have much Holden parts left in them. I figured that if you can put a top-loader box an a 9 inch in one ,why not a ford engine.
I bought this 4 door LX 202 trimatic a few years ago and stuck it in the shed up at the farm for a while until i was ready to commit to the project.
Modified front cross member for custom pipe and sump clearance.
Custom 4 into 1 pipes, custom collectors. Pipes are 1-7/8 primary stepped to 2 inch secondary into 3 inch collector.
Had made a sheet metal 9 inch, 35 spline moser axles, QA1 rear coil overs and mini-tubbed.
Glen and Cindy from Boomfunk can over and trimmed the boot area so i could mount fuel cell, battery box and fuel pump and filter .
Purchased Hopper stopper kit
Stripped engine bay and repainted
From this,
To this,
Installed B&M Pro Ratchet shifter into console. Wanted to maintain all the original interior.
During painting engine bay and getting tubs done. Bob Grant automatics was piecing together a full manual C4 capable of handling 800hp, 8 inch dominator converter(5500rpm) was getting a new balloon plate made by woolloongabba converters and engine builder was doing what engine builders do best(stuff me around). Anyhow engine changed from being 4V heads, TFC manifold,YT roller-rockers to CHI 3V heads, CHI manifold, jessel roller rockers. Finally engine was finished being built and dynoed midway through October 09. Figures were not to bad either.
So i was ready to put engine and box in on the 31st October. 30Th October, chopped end of finger off, operation next day, month off work,, school holiday trip to Darwin, change of jobs.
Anyhow engine and box is all in now so all the little fiddly bits to go. With all the luck i have been having of late, who knows when it will be finished.
Positive and negative comments welcome.

Ditch the auto and go with a top loader though for ultimate fun times
Hey Bart, have you got the VH series Nissan V8 actually in your car? They're huge. I have a VH45 in my wifes 1968 firebird and it took a hell of a lot of work to get it in there. Much bigger than a big block chev in physical size. I'd love to see some pics of your project.
OK, sorry for going off topic there. Scotty keep up the good work mate.

I wouldn't have gone a Clevo in a Torana either but hey a nice car is a nice car, and I'm sure it sounds twice as good as a SBC!

You've done it really well to mate... that rear end setup... is that able to be engineered?

Looks like you had the motor specially built for the car so it wasnt a case of "I had it lying around"
People that go for jap engines (like Bart) are looking at the technical advantages of running a later model and techniologically advanced engine, seems like you might have just done this to piss people off?
obviously its not just me that it irks though, like the bloke with the XR6 motor in his LJ XU-1 race car.
Its always going to get peoples backs up, Holden Vs Ford is the oldest rivalry around, so you have to expect it.

Without the "Ford" emblem on the rocker covers, not many people would take a 2nd look at the motor.
To be honest, i'm not that fuseed... if it goes hard then who cares!
Rocker covers are already gone, just waiting for new custom alloy ones to arrive.
Its not a show car so bonnet wont be open much and engine on display.

WHY ? - Because i like the torana body style in general, done right they look the goods. In all honesty though... why??

I had clevo engine parts and C4 boxs from other car i had.
Was always going to race it so light car + big engine = good times ahead
How do you specially build this engine for this care ?????? when its still the original front cross menber thats just be modified for pipe clearance( mods were done by GONZO who does that to all the torana cross members that he builds pipes for)
The bloke who fabricated the diff happens to be an engineer, he reckons its ok due to trailing arms mounting points have not be modified. I suppose interpretations can vary.Loving the idea of a clevo in a torana...
