Hi

If anyone has 18inch wheels on there torri with flares it doesnt matter what year but can i have a pic of the rims and how wide i could go. 265 would be my min might sound dumb but i like real wide tires on the toranas with flares.

With 18" wheels, you would be looking at 275 tyres to fill out the rear flares, but then that means a 35 series tyre.

Pack extra cushions. Posted Image

PS. If I were on the home computer I would be able to show you some pics.

cheers for that mate i would like to go bigger so might end up mini tubbing it and trying the old mans 18 by 285 but they have very tall tires. I would love to get something like a 315 but thats pretty big and cop bait. Has anyone mini tubbed there lx how big of a job is it.

Not much point in having both tubs and flares, they don't really offer complimentary wheel space. With flares its more about rolling diameter than width on the back, there's plenty of room for wide tyres but not tall ones. On the front its a compromise between width/offset and diameter to ensure clearance particularly at the firewall when turning.

235/40 x 17 front, 8" rim.
275/35 x 18 rear, 9" rim.
The sidewall height of the front and rear tyres are very similar.

HRV74 could you tell me what back spacing you have on the rears and also was there a specific reason you went with 17's on the front?
I was hoping to get 295s under the back, but as you can imagine, I need to ensure the perfect offset's to achive this. Thanks.

Hi there
The 17's front/18's rear thing kind of happened by accident, but I'm glad it did! I wanted a 9" wide rear rim, but KWC (Showwheels) did not make a 17 x 9" in that style, so I went for the 18 x 9" (wearing 275/35/18 Falken 452's).

As for the front, I wanted to retain a reasonable amount of height/profile in the sidewall, so the 17 got the nod over the 18. These wear a 235/40/17. For the street, I liked the idea of this instead of, say, a 225/35/18. The sidewall height of the 235/40/17 and the 275/35/18 is almost identical, so it looks right (in my biased opinion!).

4.5" backspace front and rear.

If I ditched the tailpipes, I believe the thing would swallow 295's without a problem, but I wanted to retain the twin 3" pipes and leave them as they are.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Harve

Hi Harve,

I am going to put 18x 10 on rear with 275x35.  I was looking at  5" back space initaiily but the template i made rubbed just.  So gunna go 4.75" back space.  How much room do you have left on the inside of the guard near the chassis rail on yoir set up.  i am running standard diff on LX hatch.

cheers,

Ryan
