Hello peoples Well I have a little story.. with a question or 2 at the end of it I have a 1977 LX, that had a red 6cyl in it. I have now got a 253 bolted into the engine bay.. ready to start playing with the wiring lume. I picked a harness up from a swap meet a few months back.. the fella said it was a V8 lume.. which would fit a Torana. Think he lied to me!! The plugs are the same.. but I just compared the harness to another 6cyl harness (which is in a car - going).. and they are almost the same (inc the length). Just wondering what I should do now? What harness should I be chasing, and what are the differences between the 6cyl and V8 harnesses? Thanks heaps!!

Footnote: I hate elsctric spaghetti!
There are a couple of wires which need extended.
....thinking....thinking... oil pressure, water temp,
Easier to modify the current loom than try to find a V8 one in gc.

Agreed^^^^^^^6
Use the two looms to make one with the right lengths as required.

Well I have extended the wires.. and I have also sourced a wiring diagram that helped with a few things. Now.. the dash lights are coming on.. but the engine still isnt cranking over. Basically, this is how it is wired now: From the lume.. got the fusible link wire going to the starter, along with the +ve (whilst cranking) which is going to the solenoid. From the starter, I have the main cable going to the + battery. From the battery.. got the cable going to the alt, along with another wire going to the alt. From the lume.. I have the brown wire going to the +ve coil.. from the -ve coil, the wire goes to the distributor (thats the only wires from the coil.. one each side). Im pretty sure this is all happy...
Now.. I am going from the 6cyl trimatic (column shift), to the V8 trimatic (floor shift). I'm suspecting this is where the issue is.. as the vehicle might think that it is in drive or something?? This is the Tbar that is going in.. and these 4 wires.. well, I wouldnt have a clue where they go?!?! Can someone please help?!? Thanks heaps..

As you know with these auto's. You can not start them in gear. So there should be a switch under the dash that will only be closed to allow cranking when the column is in park or neutral.
You should find these wires and short them to test ONLY that this is your problem. Once proven, this function will need to be transfered to the switch on the floor shift. On the floor shift, there should be two switches, one for the crank interlock above and the other will be the reversing lights. reversing light wires are normally green. But your pictures shows too many??
Have fun.
