Just a quick question some one might be able to help me with is the steering column's plate that mounts on the firewall..
My lx came in pieces and it came with a steering column (with column shift) .. but when I went to bolt it in. .the plate wasnt lining up with the threaded holes on the firewall. It actually looks like someone has put it on backwards.

Now my 74 LH is stil complete and after looking at the mounts on that it still looks like the plate is reversed on my lx's one.
Now a few questions - are those plates the same through both lx and lh's.
Have i been given a LH one with my LX.. can that plate be removed.
I tryed but the column shifter coupling was preventing the plate from sliding off the end..
I shall get a few pics tonight for closer inspection.
But i've added this pic i grabbed from ayios project thread

cheers for any help

AFAIK there is no difference between the LH & LX plates.
The auto/manual ones are different.... in that the manual one has the hole for the clutch rod.
I don't know about the column shifts though.

From memory, my panel doesn't have a hole in it because it has a factory fitted full cable clutch, but yes for rat traps they do have holes and they should all be the same apart from that.

That appears to simply be the wrong plate, it may even be the wrong steering column all together.
I would suggest you take a minute and go to a pick your part sort of place and have a look, you may even pickup the whole assembly whilst there if it turns out yours is from a completely different model.

Please be aware that whilst the plate in question is the same for LH/LX/UC (except for manual 6cyl which will have the hole for the clutch rod.) The Columns are a little different through the models because:-

LH has the head light switch on the dash with the light dimmer switch location on the floor.
LX has the head light switch on the dash with the light dimmer switch location on the Column.
UC has the head light switch on the Column with the light dimmer switch location on the Column.
This all means you need the right column to make the wiring compatible for your model.

Mind you, just to throw a curve ball, some early LX, in particular the S with bench seat I believe has the LH floor dimmer arrangement.
Do you live in the north or south of Adelaide as someone may be able to come and have a look for you?

yeh thanks for clearing that up baron. when i was comparing to my lh plate the dome shaped concave section along side the cutout for the actual column -on the lh and in torryhead pics above that concave is very pronoun.. and in the plate i have in the pics is only just protuding.

i'm north of adelaide , Paralowie area.

So now im no the hunt, so if anyone has a column for sale,, please let me know..

cheers for the help.
