A while yet Pat
Update: Working Bee undertaken today.
First and foremost a public thank you to Gerry (Redslur), Craig (LX6LTR), Brett (myss427) and Marcel for all their work today on my behalf. The work undertaken today was well beyond my skills or understanding, and equally frantic - jobs ticked off were numerous!
Of course the biggest accomplishment of the day was both the installation of the engine and gearbox, and also the completion of the roof lining;
The other big news is the car now sits on its own wheels for the first time since it came home as a roller in about March 2011 and for once is beginning to look like a car.
And so this is where it is at - again thanks to the CTC boys who very kindly gave up their holiday to come and help out - I know there will be a couple more working bee's yet to come, but the good news is the list is getting smaller every time, and you have again left me in a position to complete a number of other things for myself before I next call upon you for help.
Cheers, TB

Thanks guys.
Having a dickens of a time with the rear seat backs.
There are two sorts of seat back hinges for hatchbacks as it turns out.
Some are stamped 94 and 95;
And some are stamped 09 and 10.
They don't appear to be interchangeable.
As it seems with most everything with my car, I had a set of 94/95 outers and but the inners were 'missing'.
I was kindly donated a set of 09/10 inners by my auto-trimmer (Robbie Pegg) - I cleaned and painted them all up, fitted them and it all went to poo - the seat backs tilted inwards to the centre and couldn't latch.
The 94/95 outers needed to come down about 3cm to level the seat and thereby were too low for the holes and recess in the wheel arch.
This is where they attach and for the seat back to be level that bracket needed to come down by the width of it again (picture from toranavista);
No biggie, I was again kindly gifted a set of 09/10 outers from LX6LTR.
Again cleaned them up and painted but... bugger it - still too low!
So it appears the 94/95 stamped hinges are for LX and the 09/10 stamped hinges are for UC (different rear seat floor height we are thinking is the cause/reason).
And so now I am all at sea, trying to find a set of 94/95 stamped inners hence my wanted thread;
http://www.gmh-toran...k-inner-hinges/
I figure though, maybe I am jumping the gun and sourcing a set of 94/95 inners won't do the trick.
And so once more I wish to profit from the forum's experience and learn if anyone else experienced this issue, and if so, can you confirm my suspicion re: 94/95 are for LX and 09/10 are for UC?
Thanks and cheers, TB

as uc lx are not interchangeable
due to rear tonough floor height
uc floor height is i believe higher than lx

Thanks Bomber,
Guess it shows how rare these hinges are if folks like yourself don't hold any.
Good news being Hanra is kindly playing intermediary for me on a set - just trying to lock a deal in Eddie
The photos sent to me clearly depict there is a clear difference between 94/95 stamped (LX) hinges and 09/10 stamped (UC) hinges - all about the 'angle of the dangle'.
All the best, TB

Well, thanks to Hanra as go-between, I have gotten myself a set of LX (94/95 stamped) rear seat hinges for the hatchback.
Thought I would post a few images to show the difference between LX (satin black in these images) and UC (09/10 - gloss black in these images) for posterity.
The photos show the pivot height of the LX hinges differs to the UC and (as it turns out) this is important if you want the seat back latch to line up with the ^ shaped rod on the wheel arch.
Also (as it further turns out) you can't mix and match LX with UC - again issues with the latch not aligning, but also causes the seat backs to tip inwards in the centre.
Inner hinge - LX on top;
Inner hinge - UC on top;
Outer hinge - UC on top;
Outer hinge - LX on top;
I'll have a go at installing the seat backs tomorrow - fingers crossed it all works out!
Again, a big thank you to Hanra (Brad) for his help with this.
Cheers, TB

Do you have a full set of UC ones you want to sell now?

Posted 22 December 2013 - 08:22 AM
Tried to send you a PM but it appears I am blocked from doing so - says you have chosen not to receive any new messages from me...
In any case, I don't think I'll be needing them.
I have a few other bits that go with them like the V shaped latch rods, the triangular shaped firewall bracket which the centre hinges slot into (from a LX but I think these are the same as UC?), and the foam piece that screws to the front of the triangular bracket.
Flick me a PM if you are interested and we can take it from there if you like?
I'll just need to check with the fellow who gave me the outer hinges in a swap for the LX ones I used to have to be sure he doesn't want them back is all.
Cheers, TB

How close now Craig?
Still a while yet Yella.
Heaps more to do - lots more $ and time yet to go under the bridge.
If I can get it done by Christmas 2014 that would be great!

just been looking at your progress Tyre biter, the green looks sensational fresh. Those seat brackets are a trap, it seems to be those little things that consume a heap of time. Stick at it, you're doing a great job.
Meanwhile keep the money tree fertilized, and have a great Xmas
cheers

Should be a nice car when she's on the road.
There is quite a bit of difference in those hinges.
Thought they would have taken a bit longer to get there being Xmass and all,cant beat Australia Post sometimes

Cool build TB!
You are a lucky bloke having the CTC guys comin around to spin spanners for you!
Was the headlining a bastard to get in? I have to put mine in and was gonna get a trimmer to put it in but if its achievable by the DIYer I will give it a crack.
Keep up the good work mate

Thanks for fixing that Potta
Noballsuc - is that you Andrew?
Yep, AP did well and thanks for everything - I am well on the road to getting these seats done and dusted.
I assume my envelope in return has made it safe and sound?
Yella - Enjoyment tinged with frustration; whomever thought restoring an old car was a romantic ideal was an idiot... and that would be me!
Nicko - yep, spoiled I think is the term for it - the CTC boys just go nuts and do things at a pace and in a way that I never could/would.
I run about fetching this tool, that tool, a particular screw/bolt/nut/fitting or a part and before I know it, another job gets ticked off the white board list and very often without me knowing much if anything about it the how, what, why, where, etc - unfortunately the roof lining is one of those jobs.
I see that Boomfunk have a guide on the job and this might help you decide to have a go yourself or not: http://cgautoupholst..._page=page&id=8
The rear seats are in and the 94/95 hinges have everything as it should be - the seat backs are level and they latch;
However, like everything with me and this car; I've pulled them out again since - everything gets done three times in order for me to get it right - the latest re-do being that I forgot to slot the outer hinges through the wheel arch carpet! Funny thing was, I gave Eric Bana's 'The Beast' a re-run whilst out in the shed doing this yesterday afternoon and he talked about he and his mates doing things three times over because they were learning as they went - seems to be the way of the world for the unskilled and inexperienced
Cheers, TB
