Can anyone shed some light on this piece of kit...? I picked it up years ago.

Just in case you can't make out the photos, I'd call this a chassis brace. It's mounted to the bumper bar bracket that bolts to the front chassis rails and sits kind
of where an engine fan might go - between the engine and the radiator.

Anyone got any experience with these?

Cheers \m/

That's where the front mount sway bars normally go, may have something to do with that.

Or its just a left over brace from the front end being removed for repair...?

I suspect it is a chassis brace.

I have often wondered what effect replacing the factory bumpers with fibreglass or removing them altogether has on the strength of the chassis rails. It was also reasonably common to see Toranas with extended grills and bumperetts. The brace may have been fitted in lieu of a bumper.

A friend of mine (a drag racer) used to do a similar mod (he used to weld the piece in) to this to all his Torana's, he said it was to tie the two rails together and help with getting both wheels off the ground at equal height and minimise the flex in the front.

Heres a couple of photos of the aluminium brackets that bolt to the bumper brackets & hold the brace.

That is a sway bar set up. Obviously some of it is missing but I had the exact same set up on a Group C A9X I once owned.

Hmm interesting. Just had a search through the front mounted sway-bar posts and I didn't find anything quite like this, although I did see a couple of aluminium blocks that were identical on one sway bar(mind 1/2 the photos wouldn't show from the photobucket).

As you say smuggler, it's obviously missing bits. Anyone got photos of a complete unit?

Cheers \m/

I have several front mount swaysbars. It is difficult to see how what you have could work as part of a swaybar.

Is the bar a hollow tube or a solid rod?

Is there any sign of how linkages could be attached to the bar?

Is the any sign of mounting brackets or holes on the lower control arms for mounting linkages?

Any splines on the end of your brace?

Hey crew, thanks for your contribution. I've taken a couple of photos. Bar is solid. The holes shown on the end plats are threaded.

I pulled this thing off an SLR 10 + years ago, not really knowing what it was. It bolts directly to the bumper mount, but I don't know if that is what it was designed to do or if
it had been installed like that on the SLR for some unknown reason.

Cheers \m/

That picture makes it obvious that it is a swaybar.

Arms will bolt on to the end plates with drop linkages to the front of the lower control arms similar to the K-MAC front mount swaybar.

great pics graham. Appreciated. Doesn't look like anything there is quite the same, although it's obvious there are many variations...
