I cracked the drivers side hand brake lever arm when removing the handbrake cable.... So Ive since bought two off ebay both claim to suit LH Torana's....

My old lever is on the RHS... Clearly either something funny is up with my brakes, or Ive been sent the wrong lever arm again???? Please help.

Left hand one might be from a H/T/K or HQ to HZ etc as they had larger diameter rear drum brakes than LH/LX. Datto will be able to confirm.

I gave away all my drum brake bits and pieces to a mates brother about a month ago Brad but the one on the left looks like the one that came off my LX

The one on the right definately from a V8 rear and not a 6 cyclinder or from a drum brake front end?

Well this diff/brakes is a bit of an unknown.....? Its the only part of the car not powder coated. So I reckon its been swapped out at some stage of its life... brakes included.......

Well can anyone answer this question:

Were the drum brake components all the same across the model line up of 4/6/8 cylinders with banjo diffs?

Yes. The larger one being HQ or HK makes the most sense.

If any one has there rear brake components in pieces could some one please measure the hand brake lever arm please? Id like to confirm if I indeed have the incorrect brake components with the car or have I been supplied with the incorrect hand brake lever?

Im thinking perhaps the entire rear end is out of something non-Torana?

This is from the GM Torana Part book. The shape of this arm does look more like the arm on the left in my pic??????

Hi Hanra

The lever on the left is the same in length and 99% identical to a NOS LC/LJ 6cyl lever I have. As the LC/LJ/LH had 13" rims it is probably reasonable to assume they had the same or similar 9" rear drum brakes.

Don't quote me on this but I have a suspicion the handbrake levers on your brakes could be from an earlier model Holden. Maybe HR or earlier?

Parts circled is the auto adjusting mechanism. Tend to be missing on many cars.

Plain old Torana shit
With the self adjusters turfed cause someone was too lazy to put them back on or didn't know how

Very thick linings
Drums are likely to be rooted

Your a wealth of knowledge mate! Thanks.

Is it going to be an issue with the self adjusters missing? Should I try and source some?

I had the drums machined already. The brake shop didnt say anything bad about them?

So I wonder why my handbrake lever is a weird one if this is all Torana?

Not an issue as such, but it will be nicer to have them - in my experience Toranas are best with the rear brakes adjusted up tight
