Hi All. Thought I would share a couple of subtle mods I have done to my instrument cluster.

Its the UC SLE cluster. I've cleaned it up, and taken it a part. The matte black flat section
that covers the guages can be popped out, and all the 'holes' have a nice 45 degree bevel.

So I used a silver paint pen to line this bevel, to create silver rings. Looks pretty schmick.

Also painted the needles silver.

This will be the direction I am going with the whole car. Subtle updates on not just dash,
but other parts too.

I'll be upgrading the light bulbs with white LEDs too.

:spoton: Mark. I know its hard to improve on the perfection that is the UC Torana but you have nailed that cluster.

Thanks fellas. Subtle, yet 'lifts' it a little. I think the white LEDs will make a difference.

Working on some replacement facias for each dial too. Will be a whisker different.

The other dash parts will all have the silver pen treatment, and all wood grain parts will be silver/portland grey.

I have enough parts now to experiment a little.

>>> today was spent removing the dash and plenum cover, to see how bad the rust worms were. Not the worst I've seen,
but a little dissapointing to see so much, especially on the drivers side. I think the only real way to fix it is
to drill out the welds and do a propa job of it. It goes against my short term plans though...

I admire your creativity and imagination - that is fantastic! Makes it less 80's era, and more muscle.

Did you know it was going to turn out so good, or just had an idea and went with it?

Well done!

Thanks Ang, yes mate, it was in the old noggin' and came out just as I had hoped.

But, here's the tip - if you do this, go real slow, and any paint that creeps over the edge,
just gently scrape back with a razor, and I mean really gently. (once its dry of course)

That way it comes up perfect. Same can be said for any other sliver parts. (re scraping back)

Next little idea is to laser cut exactly the same bezel shape out of 3mm clear acrylic,
and stick it behind the black bezel. I will then edge light it with a couple of led's,
which will create a 'light ring' around the dials too.
