Here's a question for all here in WA.
Has any body had there car over the pits for the first time and attempted to rego it with a T5?
For me it's a case of knowing if they don't allow it I won't worrie about trying and I'll just source another gearbox, why buy another box if I don't need to.
Cheers.

Theres plenty of non standard boxes in Toranas
As long as the mount looks strong enough I can't see an issue
Daves went over the pits recently with a Tremec
I know of a few others with them too
So no reason why a T5 would be an issue if fitted properly

The official procedure for any gearbox that was not a factory option in the car is to fill in a light vehicle modification form, get approval and then get an engineer to sign off on the gearbox.
You can just take pot luck and see if anyone cares when you go over the pits. Worst case scenario you will be told to get an engineer to sign off on the gearbox.

if you use a ford 6cylinder t5 it should bring the shifter into pretty much the same spot

Cheers guys, thanks for your thoughts.
The box is a Ford V8 of 90-95 using a CRS bellhousing. The shifter is about 1-2 inches further back but it should be a good thing.
I'll let ya all know how things go when the time comes.
