Ok, it appears I am missing the bolts that secure the K-Frame 'legs' to the 'side member' (the bit either side of the chassis rails adjacent to the transmission tunnel).
I've had a look at the LX Parts Calalogue (Page 374) and think P/N 272404 are the bolts I am after - refer View A in top left corner of page.

In the absence of being able to walk into my dealer and get these parts nowadays, I need a bit of help from anyone familiar with the whole mount please. I hope to then get something close from my local fastener shop;

a.The bolts are 5/8 right?
b. How long should they be?
c. Are the bolts threaded the entire length or smooth for a portion?
d. What grade tensile are they?
e. It seems there are two sets of washers - P/N 120389 and P/N 7205937 (labelled as '2' in the image). Appart from having to fit a 5/8" bolt - how big are they?

Any photos would be great, but I'll take any advice I can get right now.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Cheers, TB

Bolts are measured from the bottom of the head.

I don't have any spare bolts here but the hole in the metal sleeve of the bush is only 10.9mm so the bolt is not 5/8" - that would be 15.9mm OD. 7/16 is still too big at 11.13mm so I would have a stab and say these bolts would be 3/8 UNC. That looks about right from the picture with the ruler above. Socket size is not directly related to bolt OD.

I would try to get them in Passivated zinc high tensile if I were you are because I reckon that would be what the originals are (or should be at least).

The thread is 7/16" UNC. The bolt head is 5/8" and has a large shoulder on it, the nut is 11/16" (the ones above don't look like factory ones)

+1.

I am a bit confused as to which way round the k-frame leg bush is fitted. The parts manual picture above appears to show it the wrong way round.

I wanted to say 7/16" but the LC (looks like they are the same OD) the one I just measured the thread OD was 10.9mm - maybe it is a bit worn from the conelock nut winding on and off.

The ones in ls2lxhatch's pic are original - that's not a washer under the head, its part of the bolt head

The UC parts manual shows the leg bush fitted correctly. The LH and LX parts manuals are wrong.

The ones up front have a bit of extra length too, a safety thing perhaps...?

Hi mate,
God bless CB - truely a bloody gentleman but I only just saw this now and I'm sorry to learn, as I have gotten the bolts from Specialty Fasteners already. They didn't come cheap either, but I visited Fyshwick in company with the bride today on the premise we were looking at some furniture and wouldn't you know it, we just happened upon the shop where I could dash in to grab something...

Back to the thread; with regards to what fits or not; As indicated earlier, I got both 3/8 and 7/16 bolts and have found the 7/16 to fit like a finger in... a glove!

Pity it fits so well really, because I can't for the life of me get the drive's side in - just can't get it to line up front to rear and given the car is on rudimentary stands, there isn't a lot of 'purchase' to pull the K-Frame forwards from the body. I'll keep trying though, have a bit of a think on how to tweak it and for sure it will sort out, Doesn't really matter right now in any case as I'm spendng the next few days building a deck with my F-I-L and so the Banana will have to wait at while - maybe in the interim the Torrie fairies might visit and align the two holes for me...or, maybe not :nada:

Cheers, TB

I use a tapered bolt ground off centre to align the leg bolts. The bolt is extra long because I have a CRS chassis kit.

More pictures and tips for fitting the k-frame here.

Thanks for that - sorry to report that link you gave me is just to a larger pic of the same image.
However I think I get what you are suggesting; a long rod through the holes and then used as a lever to align the two holes?
I've had no more luck tonight with a 8" bolt - even loosened the top bolts and even hitched the k-frame to my ute via the old Telstra rope with truckies hitch to no luck.
I'll find myself a longer rod and give it another go tomorrow if I get a moment.
Thanks again and cheers, TB

Those bolts look very similar to the LX bolts.

It appears that the early bolts had a seperate washer for the head and the later bolts incorporated the washer.

Thanks guys - much appeciated.
The good news is that I got the troublesome driver's side bolt in this afternoon!

I tried all the suggestions above but couldn't get the holes to line up by leveraging them and so in the end I got 'creative' with the disc grinder on the end of the bolt, a wee tap with a 2lb hammer and voila!

I even remembered to re-tighten the top K-Frame bolts - I'd normaly say this outcome would suggest that I am learning but alas, like many of my jobs on the car so far, I had to repeat this one as I forgot to put the washers on the bolt after grinding it pointy...

Oh, and ls2lxhatch - that link is a ripper, especially for a noob like me - thanks.

Cheers, TB
