Hi all.

I put a new steering coupling in as I'm doing a few brake improvements and general maintenance on the LC.

Here is a Pic of it fitted.

What worried me is the severity of the angle.

Is there anything wrong or is that just how they are?

That does look severe.
Shouldn't it be a universal joint there as the shafts are at different angles as opposed to a rubber joint ?

The top should have a uni, the rag joint should be at the bottom.

This in an LC.
I never seen a uni in there before and I'm pretty sure there as been no conversion work done on it.
The Rubber one broke in 2000, replaced with a nolathane. Have just now replaced the Nolathane one back to the original rubber one.
Would somehow either my steering column be put in wrong or steering rack be wrong? If so how do you adjust them?

Nothing wrong there from what I can see. The angles of the shafts look correct.

Hi

Two of those bolts are supposed to be facing the opposite direction. The correct bolts have a raised part that slots into a groove in the coupling.

Cheers

Thanks Dave and Bazza.

Thanks for pointing out the bolt orientation, tho may I ask what difference it will make? and does anyone sell the correct pins?

cheers

Hi Adam

With the non original bolts you have fitted the orientation will make no difference whatsoever. However if you had the original type bolts then they would have to be fitted as Bazza has pointed out.

Got no idea if anyone makes the original type bolts. You could try a specialty fastener shop or keep an eye on ebay.

i did the same on sunday (replaced a eurathane with original rubber style)

that angle is right

i put the washers under the nuts not the bolt head

also found that one of the cotter pins had come loose

so i used some white touch up paint to paint a line along the shaft over the yoke so i can see at a glance if its moved again
