Can someone please tell me the diameter of the stock exhaust system to suit LH SLR 5000? Twin 2in?

brad
a company called finnex!
here in w.a. helped me out with brackets
and they can do original pipes
at least they could when i did mine
although mine is an a9x
they will cost you and you will
have to wait as they are no longer a carried
item as far as parts go
will have to order
i believe mufflers with 2in inlet and 1 5/8 outlet are
nla so you will have to be inventive!
i had to!
don,t know if walker exhaust are still operating
if so try them also
cheers

Just saw two exhaust shops after work, one shop, the fella really didnt seem very interested or enthused about doing it. But did give me some time of day.

The second shop I got there at 5:01 and straight up the fella pretty much told me to come back during business hours, he wasn't interested in my business at all.

Him and his little buddy did say that no LH or LX V8 Torana ever had 1 5/8in tailpipes. They were full 2in. They said they will fit whatever I want but I was wrong.

So I think there are another 2 shops in town left to try but I thought id try the 2 better ones first...... Business must be booming.

1 5/8" sounds very small, Red would certainly know better than me but maybe he meant 1 7/8"?

Are you planning on replicating the crimped bends too...? :P

I found this LH L31 SLR5000 on AMCS I think, said it was un-restored and un-molested?

The pipes do indeed look like pea shooters... I just couldnt get over how rude that fella was... I know he is the owner also. I know Im a bit of a country hick simpleton who dosnt know much, but Ive had expert input on the tailpipe size being 1 5/8in,

Tail pipes are 1 5/8". I returned my lx exhaust to stock set up approx 3 years ago. Mufflers & pipes sourced from Sydney via my local garage. Mufflers turned out to be nos berklee ones with Walker (i think) stickers plastered over the berklee stickers.

The LH parts catalog lists the same tailpipe support clamp for 6 & 8 cyl engines and a different part number for 4 cyl engines.

This would indicate that the 6 & 8 cyl tailpipes were the same diameter.

Cheers,

According to the LH service manual, for a 308 v8 you have:
Exhaust pipes 2.00 in (6 cylinders & 253 v8 got 1.87 in)
Tail pipes 1.62 in (as ls2lxhatch says above, this the same for 6 and 8 cylinders)

And in case you needed to know, thickness was/is 0.06 in for all.

Finnex are now called Autoline
One of the bretheran businesses

1300 310 310 (ask for Brad or Peter)

Now... Walker books say there is either a 1 5/8 or 2" tailpipe available
I always thought they were 1 7/8 myself too (mine are 2.5" nowdays)
So never trust a catalogue or your memory :)

I have an account with them if need be so can get them and ship them over for you or at least go get a sample pic

Went and seen another shop today. The swear black and blue the tailpipes were 2in. But at least they are willing to ring around and make some enquiries. Let's just hope they call me back. Most places dont.

Have done a little research as follows:
Info is applicable to 5 litre LH & LX and some 4.2 litre as per catalogue texts, i.e., some state V8 torana all, & other states V8 torana 5 litre (REPCO 1976 catalogue).
All Front Pipe part numbers are those applicable PRIOR to emmission control - GMH part numbers R/H 9930216 & L/H 9930270.
All Tail Pipe part numbers are manufacturer equivalents to GMH 2825996 R/H, and 2825997 L/H.
There is variation in GMH Muffler part numbers.

1985 Berklee catalogue - Front pipes - R/H BE 3028 & L/H BE 3024, Mufflers p/n BM 2871 (GMH 2825996) both, R/H tail pipe BT 2477, L/H tail pipe BT 2478.

1976 REPCO catalogue - Front pipes - R/H E5-3028 & L/H E5-3024, Mufflers p/n ALI-2871 (GMH 2825998) both, R/H tail pipe T4-2477, L/H tail pipe T4-2478.

1982/1983 REPCO catalogue - As per 1976 catalogue except the GMH Mufflers part number is listed as 9942745.

1982/1983 LUKEY catalogue - Front pipes - R/H E-1936 & L/H E-1935, Mufflers p/n 1707 (GMH 2825998) both, R/H tail pipe T-1690, L/H tail pipe T-1689.
This catalogue actually states "Original Dual System 1-5/8" OD Tail Pipes".

Cheers,
Daryl.
