Hi guys,

Just curious to know if anyone on here has or knows someone who has worked an alloytec v6. Being DOHC and all alloy engine, would be interesting to see what kind of figures people have made with them.
It seems like a good platform for some decent power.

Cheers

What do you mean by worked? My mate has a VE SV6 with full exhaust, tune, CPR6 manifold and Hammer intake and it runs 14.3 over the 1/4. Not great numbers but not bad for the amount of work. He is now looking into a turbo setup.

Vince Rigoli has a turbo one in his Datto ute running well into the 8s.

i've heard bad things...like rings going at 170-190k from the vy series ones
i'd avoid them and stick with the earlier iron 3.8 blocks if your doing a transplant

I would avoid them altogether, bloody awful sounding things. Stick with the 5.7 and 6.0L engines if you can. My bog standard V2 CV8 auto, stock standard in factory trim (spare, tools etc) and heavy (125kg) me in it pulled mid 14's.

VZs are Alloytec, VYs are Ecotec if V6s. Not much difference in shells to tell difference thou apart from bonnet. Bit like a VR and VS.

The above engine I believe are running around 350+ hp and were actually pretty mild, ie the heads and bottom end basically standard, just some small upgrades.

Still wouldn't bother. On an LS1 with bugger all mods you can get 300kW, on a manual exhaust, cold air and tune.

yeah i agree, if power is what i was chasing, then i too would rather go the ls route. and a v8 or I6 seems more correct in a torana anyway. was just interested to see what people were doing out there with these engines.

nah not a p plater anymore i have just always liked cool V6's. i think it has stemmed from my love of nsx's.
