Hi Guys,
I can't work out if my seats are LJ with the headrest missing and then built up high or LC built up high.

I have cut into the top of one hoping to find a headrest below but it seems like just foam underneath.

Is there any way I can tell, cause if they are LJ can I just buy some headrest and get it all sorted when re-trimmed.

I presume if it's LJ there should be some metal guides for the headrests to fit in. If so I will cut the top of to check.

Cheers
Marty

look at the base underneath, LC is fully sprung where as LJ is mainly foam, that would give you a start

LJ seats are basically the same as LC.

The LJ head restraints have plastic guides that sit into holes in the top of the seat backrest frame. Each guide is attached to the frame with two screws.
If they are modified LJ seats in your car then the plastic guides are probably long gone as they are installed through the vinyl.

AFAIK HQ Holdens used the same plastic guides as the LJ, however, from memory the HQ head restraints won't fit an LJ (not 100% sure so could be wrong).

just looking at the pics, my guess is they are LJ... its just a guess tho.. can see they are fairly modified, and who ever re does them will have there work cut out...

Think it will be a case of start again.. could almost be easier to get other seats

Any one got some LJ seats for sale in Perth?

How do the back seats look?

Dave's correct. Plastic guides are the same but the bars that slide into them are positioned differently.
HQs are more centrally located where LJs are more towards the outer back corners.
The vinyl skins were diecut to suit both models tho. I needed to replace 1 on my LJ & found a long grain
HQ & once removed found it had the holes in the LJ position but the centers not pushed out. Swapped it
over & glued the hole center into the original HQ hole, job done.

Just been out in the car tearing some foam and vinyl away from the frame.

Here are the pics, looks like an LJ seat with the head rest welded to the frame then built up with foam.

The more I see the more it looks like I'll need a new set of front seats. Bugger....

I hope the rear seat can be made good, should they be straight across the top?

Cheers
Marty

Yep, they're LJ seats. you can see the head rest guide hole. Looks like the head restraint has been cut down in length as the post doesn't line up with the hole anymore.
The GTR rear seat has the raised sections and dip in the middle similar to how yours has been modified to look like a GTR rear seat. The S rear seat is straight and only as high as the dipped part.
