I've just prepared my tyres for storage.
These tyres are in good condition with plenty of tread and still soft rubber but due to my restoration finish date being three years away I have to do all I know to preserve these babies. I am only using info that I have found on the net with a couple of my own modifications.

Firstly I washed and dried tyres, removed all stones and sprayed Aerospace Protectant 303 and wiped them over tread, inside and side walls. I let this soak for a few days then did it again and then wrapped each tyre with black cling wrap. Marked with a + on one side so I can rotate evenly every few weeks. They will be stored in a cool dry place off the concrete.

To find out if this works will take a few years but I'll try and update this thread when they get unwrapped.

It's been two months and one rotation, just enough time for me to have a sneak peek and see how these babies are looking. Unwrapped a section and all looks good, tyres still look moist and feel soft. Wrapped back up and put away stored on rubber mat.
Only time will tell!

its not about them being frOckwits at all....its to stop people being sold tyres that sit in warehouses forever.....most consumers wouldn't know a tyre date code if it bit them in the arse.

Didn't know that, was hoping it might be ten years (like a gas cylinder) Both hold gas under pressure.

Thats fair enough, but when you take the spare off your car trailer that has about 75% tread left in because you need to have a tube put in it because the rim is slightly dented, its a bit over rated.

Due to this law i have a brand new spare tyre to match the four brand new tyres that will perish before they are at 75% tread wear.....And a tube in the brand new spare due the slightly dented rim.

I really hope this works out for you sibhs but i am afriad i am with FastEHHolden on this one. Tyres have a lifetime. I am hoping the Hancocks on my Sprintmasters are still ok for the LC, but they have been sitting around since 2008.

G'day Gene,
I would do that if I could find some new tyres!
Who sells 13" low profile rubber?

Some one must do them google them

try vintage tyres
tmk it's sunlight and exposure to the elements/moisture in the air that's the main killer of tyres

I'm after 60 profile and 205's. At the moment I have 205's on the front and 225's on the back. I haven't found any 225's available. I would settle for 205's all round.

I've found these which look ok? seem pretty cheap too. I think the brand is reputable?

That Tyre looks to be a 16" I'm guessing. The 205/60R13 would be smaller and have more sidewall. If the compound isn't rubbish, with that tread pattern they look decent. I still miss the Egars & the Sumitomos. :(

Have you got any links to these new legislations?, or more details?

will they balance, fix a puncture on a five year old tyre or is it just going to be illegal for them to sell them.

As i said, i took the spare off my car trailer in to get a tube fitted, and they wouldnt touch it.

Said they would not put one on a rim, would not balance, would not puncture repair, would not fit a tube, The only thing they would do is pull it off.

Cheers.

I had the local tyre mob here remove the shitty old eagers from my rims cause they were leaking. I had em fit some tubes inside. But I told em I was only moving the car round the shed. That was last year though.

It may well be, but searching here on google, looking at current adrs and the like it seems very strange that I can't find any mention of a document or regulation that refers to it, especially since it is going to have a huge impact on the cost of having tyres on a car.

Nothing about whats on the car, just what they can and cant touch, so ADR etc is irrelevant.

Sadly i was there during my lunch break, so i didnt have time to ask them to print me out a signed copy of the legislatiton and sit there with my little eye glasses and examine it.

Perhaps you can come to QLD, go into a tire shop and inquire for yourself?

Cheers.
