hi all. Looking into dropping my rears from 15" to 14". For the people with 14" rims. Whats the biggest size tyre you have on your rears?? I understand rim offset comes into it also and is your car a 2 or 4 door as apparently the arch size is different. Only interested in stock wheel arch sizes not tubbed.

Cheers all

The main problem is getting anything wider than a 245 in 14" these days. I knew where 27 or so brand new 245/50R14 Eagers were a few months back, so finding a new pair shouldn't be too hard.

sweet. do they fit easy though chops? would you be better off going a 235 60 14 or 245 50 14 as you can get the MH 235 60 14 street slick pretty easy.

Mate of mine is running 14x7inch rims with the 245/50/14 on his lj and no problems chris you might find the 60 profile tyre might be to big in height but all depends on your suspension set up

i have fit 235 60 15's on her brfore but she was jacked pretty high. the 235 60 14 will be smaller so should be able to squeeze it in. Hows the traction with the 245 50?

Mine does 12.2 but will run high 11's (injected 355) so I have no chance with what I have now.

For street, 245/50/14 Yokohama 352's are still available.. They are a good street tyre.

I'd stay away from Eagers unless you love burnouts and/or hitting gutters sideways in the wet

I've been in the tyre indusrty since 1982. Most customers I've dealt with prefer the Eagers over the Yokohamas.

No, I'm not joking. The Eagers are also made in Japan. 12 months ago I knew of seven 245/50R14 eagers in Perth and another 21 in Melbourne. You haven't been looking very hard.

If you go with 60 series 14's they are still pretty cheap (For T/A's as an example) and 225's, 235's and 245's are available easy. (the 225's and 235's for sure as of today at least, I had just checked on them amoungst a bunch of other 15" ones)

As for 50 series... Coker is selling the 245/50-14 BFG, but they are big bucks...

I personally wouldn't touch either of them, but as I said the majority of the customers I dealt with prefer the Bridgestones. If a customer really wants a particular tyre, we sold it to them irrespective of our opinion of their choice.

Problem is that it's not 1982 and the few Eagers that are available will be hard as rock.

They would be 265/50R14's and a private importer is probably the best way to get odd sized stuff these days.

Hey SS, how close is the tyre to the rear shock? I have 245/50 on a 14x8 rim on my SS, with the inside edge of the guard rolled and they still rub, having said that, there's at a guess, about an inch between the back of the tyre and the shocky. What is the back space of your rims?

my diff has been narrowed slightly about 20 mm each side its a borg warner and shockers are in std location(original banjo was also narrowed)
there is still about 20 mm clearance between the inside of the tyre and the shockers
i have also had the guard lips rolled flat and pumped slightly about 5mm
not sure on the rims back spacing

the tyres only scrape up inside the guard(inner guard) when going through a drain etc..has to be pretty savage angle though to scrape

I've got 265/50 eagers on 14x8 rims on the UC at the mo, they fit nicely. Diff and suspension height is stock.

Is that on a sedan UC Gazman? And what is the backspace on them? I just can't see how I could fit anything any bigger than maybe 255 at best unless I cut the gourds.
