Can anyone help with sourcing an accelerator cable bracket for a 253/308 running an Edelbrock Performer manifold with a Holley 4BBL on top.
The Holden ones dont really fit well without total modification.
This is for an LX. The heater hoses coming from the thermostat housing will rub or foul on the bracket as well.
I am also trying to keep a Holden look so not keen on blingy billety things.
Any hints or advice (other than changing the whole package!) would be welcome.

Looks like you might have the pivot ball in the wrong location.

Also are you experiencing trouble with lining up the bolt holes thru the manifold?
The manifold may need machining to correct it and so it will seal up correctly and prevent vacuum leaks and oiling issues.

All lines up fine. Pic was taken with the manifold just plonked on top and a couple of bolts screwed in. Will take a closer look at the pivot ball location. Cheers.

I am running a quad/edelbrock performer arrangement with the OEM bracket and the LX (2 outlet) thermostate housing OK, but it is a tight fit.

I have also seen two brackets that appear the same but the OEM bends up at the front, the replica bends up at the back. With the replica you can not adjust how the bracket sits against the edelbrock intake runner (behind) by filling away a bit of metal for better the clearance as this is the vertical portion of the bracket.

Maybe chuck up a photo of the bracket roughly in situ.

you need one of these brackets which came of my 253 LX SS..they were also i think on other HJ-X-Z 253's..mine has been slightly altered as the locater tang at the front is missing..you can bolt it directly on the rhs rear carb stud and it will line up with the carb linkage
unfortunately Holdens or Rare Spares dont have them so youll have to get a second hand one from the wreckers

Thanks Baron, I have the 253 bracket and a 308 one so need to work out what might be best if there is no alternate Holden-like brackets.
I will post up some pics tomorrow arvo.

And thanks Tim, I never thought to attach the cable from the back. Does that cause any sticking issues or get in the way of the dizzy etc?
The cable looks to snake its way around. All 253/308s I have seen attach from the front.

Michael,it doesnt foul on anything and goes in a 's' shape and both throttle plates open fully..there were a coupla variations on this bracket i have seen another holden one thats not quite the same..sort of longer and shallower ..also i run a 1" carb spacer so mounting mine on the manifold wouldnt really work
it also clears the 14" air cleaner

I guess Baron you are running the bonnet scoop using the 1" spacer you would need a hole in the bonnet???

This is the alignment with the bracket I have.
The hose coming off the rear of the thermostat housing will be an issue, I think if I tweek the angle of the bracket cutout the cable should align OK.

looks like it would work..but it also looks like the cable will have a long way to travel from the bracket to the carb ball?

I had one of these 450 holleys on the car years ago, the cable ball should be on the lower side of the linkage , under the shaft and you will need to use the
low cable bracket, not the tall one as the cable will rub on the shaft return spring.

Thanks Archie, by the lower bracket you mean the original 253 2BBL bracket?

I found the rare spares bracket is different to the V8 Torana bracket. Much taller.

Cheers Brad will have a look at the rares one as well on monday. even though it looks to be bent the wrong way around it may however allow a better routing for the heater hoses that run down the passenger side bank.
Will also suss that lower bracket Archie, could be modified to suit by the look of it...
Thanks for highlighting some options guys...much appreciated.

The shorter 2BBL bracket doesn't work, it won't clear the intake runner.
Will take a look at rare spares today.

The short one used on 5L Torana is straight across, that one you have appears to head off towards the rear of the motor.

True, that one I have there is from the 253 2BBL manifold. Will never fit this set up.

Tim are you using a 6 cylinder or V8 cable for the rear mounting cable set up?

Yeah Tim, the bracket come with my reco 253 motor which had the standard 2BBL strommie set up. That engine is from a HZ.
Just measuring a 6 cylinder cable I have here the length from the bracket to the carb is too short.
So the V8 cable would be longer in that dimension you think?
