A friend of mine has a Adelaide built 1972 lj xu1 with a rusted out battery tray. How many spot welds are in side the battery tray [inner Guard} ..Whats the best way to find the spot welds when the rust is bad. Also how Good are the Rare Spares xu1 barrey trays.

Gene,

pretty sure that the GTR is the same as the HQ and the xu1 is different as it's smaller for the triples

i'm pretty sure that they are not the same size ( eg the gtr has the same size as a HQ- ) when i spoke to rares they only had HQ ones which they said was the same as the GTR - just check the size Gary.

pretty sure that there is about 4 spot welds ( tacks)on the gtr " down sheet metail onto the chassis. Not sure about the spot welds onto the inner guard.

GTR, S & SL battery trays (all the same animal) are basically the same size as HQ but are not identical to HQ.
XU1 battery tray is smaller than the GTR tray.

Spot weld wise, all I remember is there was quite a few of them.

This bit didn't have any spot welds it was just welded down the bottum on mine

This half didn't have any either

Rares battery trays are excellent but you will also need a piece of flat plate to extend from the battery tray to the chassis rail. Thats if you dont have it. The one pictured above is GTR SL etc so not cvorrect for XU1.
Cheers Dave

And to ad,there would be no exact number on the spot welds.....they would be anywhere and everywhere.
