Hey all
Have a built stroked 308 to a 355 in my LH torana.
I was thining of adding a under bonnet supercharger.
I dont know a whole lot about them or who makes decent items.
Whats the go with them?
What brands make the most reliable?
DOes anyone have pics instaled? or sound bite of them?

Any help would be great

I've gone for the Terra Charger kit. It doesn't fit without mods. See my build thread for details. Sits under the bonnet nicely though.

They market it as '60% bolt on HP'. It's still not running so i don't know.

I've heard the Vortec kits are much more efficient.

Thanks for the pic.
Alot of people ive talked to have said scrap the supercharger idea and turbo it instead?
Cheaper, more responsive, generally more power etc etc

We custom build and fit turbo and blower kits to all kinds of engine/car combo's where I work and I can assure you that turbocharging is not cheaper than supercharging.  If you want instant low end grunt with a linear power curve then supercharge.   The biggest issues with turbo charging are space and under bonnet temperatures. It's difficult enough to build decent tuned length extractors in the Torana engine bay, never mind making room for a pair of turbochargers and manifolds.... plus all the associated hardware like wastegates, intercooler piping, airfilters, blow off valves etc.   We HAVE done a couple but inner guard surgery is unavoidable if you want to twin turbo a V8 in a Torana.  There is simply not enough space where it is needed without cutting into the body.   Other difficulties that arise from turbo charging are restricted airflow to the radiator and overheating, caused by the intercooler in front of it.

Look at the engine bay pic above.......  there simply isn't enough space to bring the manifold up to meet the turbo without trimming the chassis rail......  and once you have built the manifold and mounted the turbo there is no room to run a 3" exhaust outlet from the turbo back down beside the engine so cutting the inner guard to go down inside the wheel well is your only option. Then there is the challenge of simply seeing the the spark plugs, never mind changing them!

The turbo's can be mounted forward of the engine on a log style manifold but then there is no room for the other accessories like power steer or aircon..... even the alternator becomes a problem. Plus there is still the issue of where that big exhaust tube is going to go.........

EVERYTHING must be custom fabricated (including intercooler plumbing and mounts etc) and this takes a staggering number of hours......  especially if you want a professional quality and classy looking job ......making the labour cost alone much greater than the supercharger kit will cost.

Modern superchargers such as the whipple style offerings from Kenne Bell are state of the art in adiabatic efficiency and miles apart from the old inefficient roots type of decades ago.  He even offers liquid cooled versions!!!!  Browse his website for a couple of hours.......

The pro's and Cons of turbo versus supercharging are discussed a great length in the questions area.

I hope this helps with your decision.

How about a centrifugal supercharger?

Just throwing it out there as a suggestion, you'll have to research the pros and cons.

I put a 2.4 Whipple on a mild 355 in a LX Torana. With an 8psi pulley (which produces 4 or 5 psi) non-intercooled its got 360RWHP. Mods to make it fit include relocate battery, small mod to rib under bonnet for pulley. As far as everything else bigger fuel pump, no heater box (although it does fit it is VERY tight or could mod it like I have seen on the forums), with AU fans fitted have 10mm to spare.
