As we're now heading more and more towards Autumn and Winter I've been starting to think about heating and cooling.
Going back about 6 months I rebuilt the bottom end of my red 202, cleaning everything out, new lifters, new cam shaft etc.etc. When I was putting it all back together I noticed my fan belt was quite worn and thought I should replace this soon... Completely forgetting about it, I was driving down the Bruce Highway with the heater on, as it was a chilly morning, and my fan belt gave way and snapped... With all the pressure building up, it had to go somewhere. Next thing, I'm coming down the hill near the Maroochydore turn off and water explodes out from the radiator hose and my heater core. I pull over.
I check under the bonnet and sure enough, a radiator hose had blown off. Not to mention the 2L of water which poured into the front seat. My brother just happens to be driving past and gives me water while I'm disconnecting to heater. We then drive into Maroochydore to get a fan belt. All is well for the rest of the day.
So here I am now, still no heater, considering I don't use it in Summer anyway I thought I'd just wait.
My questions are;
I know there's a bit of hours involved just to get to the heater core. Can anyone give me some tips?
Should I buy a new core is there's no major damage, or just repair the heater core?
I also have an air-conditioner sitting at my parents place which came with the 202 when I got it off my uncle. How much work is involved in setting it up?
My car wasn't built for air-con.
We've all battled fog before on a cold morning/night or a wet day, and I'm kind of over it considering this is my only car.
Thanks.
