G'day I'm looking t buying a lj coupe which is possibly a gtr (already posted the car in another post)

http://www.gmh-toran...hand-over-cash/

Anyway before I hand over the cash I need to know if I can get the car registered in tasmania and how.

The car has no chassis number or vin plate.
But comes with these plates

119E2970-1ABE-495C-AEF9-7BFA4D545242-380

Should I just stamp the ALJ04637B on the car?
Or does anyone else have any ideas?
I'm very keen on this car.

PLEASE HELP :)

none of these plates belong to the shell, the best thing to do if your going to keep the car is stamp the 5-72 number on the inner guard,,, but you must always tell when selling the car later on...

cheers gong

I think what you need to do is affix the 5/72 compliance plate to the upper dash panel behind the brake booster and get the Tassie CIB to inspect the car and issue a surrogate VIN number and chassis number.  Give the CIB a call and find out what the procedure is.

It is dodgy :(
The car is for my misses and she's dead set on it. Should we just give it a miss? The coupes are getting hard to find....
It's worth sfa seeing as it would be dodgy to get it on the road... Just looking at the options we have.

Cheers Dave! Delivering the goods again. Might be a stupid question but what is CIB?

I think CIB stands for Crime Investigation Bureau, (actually, do the Police even call it CIB these days?) they would run all the checks on the compliance plate fitted to the vehicle to make sure it's clean before issuing surrogate numbers.

CIB have got better things to do than worry about some 40 year old car just ring your local licensing centre and ask them they would be the ones to know

anyways before you go and spend your money on the car take the tape down and measure all gaps and crosses just to make sure the car is not going to crab down the road on you.

I did a bit of reading on the net and 'apparently' in QLD the CIB have to inspect the car and run checks on whatever numbers are available on the car before surrogate numbers can be issued. I assume the procedure will be similar in most other states.

Cheers

Dave.

Not here dave dpi over here handles all licensing matters for car you would think they would be more worried about murderers than cars being CIB

well to prove my point about the car being a 73 shell, yes the front guards are a easy change, radiator support panel easy change, inner guards easy change, but changing both left and right [73] rails and leaving [spack] 72 washers where the 45 angel supports going under floor, means the rails where shut and cut, so take a cross measure from point to point of your rails and why you are there please take pics of the parts i asked, so i can prove its a 73 car.

thanks for your time and i hope i have help, just a little

cheers gong

I think what you need to get is whats called a "VIV" number issued to the car by the police, its what panel beaters and

such get so "stat write offs" and kit cars can be re-regoed or new regoed for road use, I remember a bloke I worked with

got one from the cops in Collingwood (Melb) somewhere to put an insurance write off motorbike back on the road.

hope this helps

Dave.
