Have been told by signatory engineer that drop tanks currently available for sale do not pass RMS departure angle rules.

I would be appreciative if anyone can point out to me a GMH document that offers a drop tank as an option on LX hatches.

If they were a factory option from the manufacturer, I may be in with a chance.

Don't think you have much chance with that one. Holden never fitted drop tanks at the factory. Just fit a standard one and if you want to take the chance fit one later as your local servo you use for the yearly rego check is probably not going to bother. There are probably other issues than departure angle, I got picked up by the EPA long time ago for noise and they also went on about the drop tank I had regarding emissions, their argument was the larger tank no longer complied as the charcoal canister was only designed for a 55l tank and the onus was on me to prove otherwise. Bit like fighting city hall.

Unfortunately you are not the first person to be knocked back by an engineer on departure angle. There are plenty of Toranas on the road with tanks that do not comply however it seems that it is mainly engineers that enforce the rule. One option is to get the engineering done with a stock tank and then fit a drop tank later.

A few including myself have built tanks that comply with the departure angle rules but fuel capacity is limited to around 70 litres.

I think you'll find that they'll have to be pressure tested & certified also. That's what my engineer wanted when I did my hatch.

Figured the easiest way in the end is to build the tank (approx 80litres) into the spare wheel compartment. A side benefit is a greater choice of exhaust configuration.
