Hi Guys,

I've sandblasted, and etch primed my Brake and clutch pedal arms (single pack with 10% thinners).  Can I now paint my 2K top coat or do I have to apply a 2K undercoat first?

Cheers

Marty

I would have thought 2 k primer first so the paint would stick better

Thanks for the response guys.

I beg to differ, now I'm no expert but what I've been told by the paint stores is

Etch primer (one part) over bare metal, then 2K undercoat/hi-fill with finally the 2k top coat.  That would be for the exterior panels.

Because these are just pedals I was hoping the 2K undercoat could be missed out.  I want a 2K finish on these because they take a bit of wear from use and presume this would give a harder longer lasting result.

Cheers

Marty

Wow internet forums are so good for advice arnt they.....

Yes you can put your 2k over the top.

Yes you should have used a 2k epoxy, but its not really going to matter.

Also, i dissagree with your paint shop.....PUtting down a 1k etch then 2k over the top is kinda like painting over grease......

Cheers.

I was hoping you would advise Bomber. Grease........ that sounds a bit drastic, I gather your exaggerating a bit there. :-)

I will check-out the 2K epoxy next time I'm at the store.

Thanks again

Marty

I was trying to keep the question simple but I'm actually painting a few other bits and pieces and so while the gun is out why not paint the pedals?
