If its a UC upper arm it'll matter as the ball joint is offset towards the rear, they're marked for id. LH and LX are ball joint on centre and should be able to switch. Don't know about the early models Robbo, expect they'd be switchable. See what others say.

Are they stamped R on one arm and L on the other arm? If not then they are identical.

The right side UC is stamped with a R. The left is not stamped but is easily identified by the offset ball joint.

LH/LX are symmetrical.
