Hi guys

Have been doing some searching on the forum to determine if anybody has installed / used the LC / LJ IFS front ends manufactured by Southern Chassis Works in Taralgon.

They have on advertised on Ebay here:

http://m.ebay.com.au/itm/251340268766

They look to be a much better construction than the Waddingtons ones, and are quite a bit cheaper.

Anybody got anything useful to say about them?

Mods sorry if this product has already been discussed elsewhere; if so point me in the right direction.

Nah, screw that i'd prefer to have one sent over in blind faith ;). Watch this space....

By the way; anybody had any experience with QA1 coil overs in street performance / occasional track use applications? This front end comes with them.

Have not bought one but I did get some email correspondence from them,

Looks like a good product, uses off the shelf Falcon rotors and wheel bearings (not sure which model) so at least some parts are available and it is available with or without brakes for slightly less money

Standard brakes were VR/VS Commodore calipers

I would like to buy one just for the extra clearance it would make for fitting the LS1 exhaust

The steering rack was not standard

I can be very annoying by email and yet they answered all my questions

Not sure if I will get one as I may be too tight, depends how much I struggle when I make my extractors

Good luck,

Also camber is adjustable

Just eyeballing it the mounting positions of the upper arms, and the rack in relation to the lower arm mounts, look more promising than others that I've seen posted up here.

All the arms are mounted in single shear; although probably not an issue some may prefer a little more strength around the bottom arms (top appears to take advantage of this for caster adjustment). This and any additional bracing could quite easily be carried out once its in the car and you know what you have to fit around it.

I run the QA1's and it changed the cars bad manners of thumping over bumps and ride is way improved. Have not really thrashed it arround bends but its more direct. took a little bit of mucking arround to dial the right settings, but found 14 was the perfect daily setting for ride and handling on my car.

Looks to me like there is some sort of eccentric setup on the upper control arm mounting

one of my questions:

On standard brake setup, type of caliper and number of pistons and rotor dimensions?

Can the camber be adjusted with an eccentric? I can see something like that in the picture.

Does the LX version use a standard Torana steering rack?

answer:

Hi mate the callipers are vs vr commodore the rotors are standard falcon the camber can be adjusted from the top no probs the rack is modified the pic is LH and yes you will have a little more clearance hope this helps call anytime if you have any more questions cheers curls

So am guessing if it was not an eccentric they would have said so

Too vague a response for the money.

I'd be heading down there to have a good look and measure before handing over any cash. I'd also want a money back guarantee that it will bolt up without modification.

I have a SCW front end in my lx hatch project. They are a great front end. I have a mate who has a hotrod shop in traralgon and he uses them quiet abit. Altho as ive said in other conversations about these front ends, mine and the ones my mate uses are built by the origional SCW. He has since sold the designs to curlys who advertise on ebay. I am led to believe that the new owner has been having the odd drama as he has changed the design a little. In my oppinion why change a good thing?? Anyway take that as u want thats just what i have heard. Mine was one of the last ones built by heath as i didnt want to get a first generation curly front end. Good luck

Hi guys,

First time poster - just thought I'd bump this thread to see if anyone has gotten the SCW front end recently since the change of hands NewsuxLX talked about?

Thinking of going down this route but want to do my homework first.

Thanks
