Whats your thoughts on the alternative if all companies have the same policy ?

Easy Dattoman ,Put in their PDS that you will have the first option to buy it back if it is ever found again .Now if they say that they are going to have to charge more for it to be on their policy .Then the question will be put to them as to how come if this is the "first time it has ever happened "?

First option is better than nothing. However if their valuation is higher than what you think it is worth then you have to decide to either pay too much or to take your chances at auction.

In most cases I suspect that you would be better off taking your chances at auction.

Exactly Andy I'm sure everyone here would just like the option to have first choice if it's too high then it goes to auction

The problem is it's usually appraised at market value, you always spend more than what it's worth and after your payout, if someone happens to outbid you; all the blood, sweat & tears, gone to waste.

Couldn't imagine market value would be that high for an unregistered damaged lx hatch with engine condition unknown as it can't be started. But we will see

Due to the rarity (LX hatchback), It could very well fetch market value minus what it costs to get it to market value ... if it goes any higher then you'll end up losing money to get it back to how it was.

If tags still there a rust free LX Hatch will still pull good money at auction. Good luck with whatever you decide to do at least its recovered and somebody can defo repair it.

They might even class it as a repairable write off which may turn a few people off. I hope you can get it back Ayden for a price you are happy with.

What if it was a Rare HDT Torana or a Rare Phase 4 and they only insured it  for $200,000 and it goes to Auction and gets past that amount easy, Bye Bye your car

you can file a civil law suit against someone in queensland if they steal from you as the proceeds of crime payment is never what they actually steal. I had around $10,000 worth of stuff stolen from my house, and managed to track down who stole it, then had to tell the cops. he got a $300 fine and ordered to pay $200 restitution to me. So I am filing a civil suit for the rest (although unlikely I will get much, its worth a shot).

Can you take someone to court (civil) in WA like this?

You can ..... but getting actually paid is another matter. The problem as I see it is that ......... the law and stealing someone's stuff is almost is a slap on the wrist offence. Now slap, punch, shoot or stab someone and they at least consider the impact on the victim, but take all his stuff and/or even financially cripple them in a swindle or robbery and the penalty is mild at best.

I still like the hang-em high or firing squad for any thief that is caught.

Keep us posted Ayden. I hope you can get it back one way or the other. If it were mine I think I'd just fork out extra as nothing can replace the sentimental value of your own car.

With enough patience & expertise even a painted over 300 year old Rembrandt can be restored, I've seen it done... So obviously that black crud can be removed with original paint restored to former glory, Best of luck with it Ayden it was a credit to you prior & still is......

I agree. This guy thinks is good to give no info and talk in riddles. Starting to really shit me!
Don't know what his angle is. Everyone wishes him well, contacts their insurance companies to attempt to help him, and he gives no feed back but posts a half assed photo with no explanation. That's gratitude for you!

Mate I was not the one who posted this picture and the reason why I didnt let everyone know the minute i got it back there was a few things i needed to get sorted before I wanted to let people know i had the car back. Im sure you can understand that. As for talking in riddles its been said that they may have found out alot of this car from forums and facebook so i couldnt give too much information out as it may have screwed the police investigation. Im sure u can understand this aswell. If you knew me personnally you would actually know how greatful i am for all the help complete strangers gave me. This was my post about 3 hours after the picture was posted

Well I have an update on the torana, as most of my close mates know I bought my car back from Shannons about a week ago. Shannon’s had the car valued by 3 separate companies and they came back to me with a fair market price, which I agreed to.

Shannons also reiterated that this not their normal policy and they do not believe they will change the policy but have told me cases like this will be looked into on a case by case basis. I can say that both myself and shannons were happy with the price that I payed.

I would like to thank everyone that offered their help and shared the posts/pictures.  The police have been great throughout and they know the people responsible.

Now a photo. The bottom photo was roughly 48 hours and 12 litres of thinners after I got the car back. A very big thanks must go to James from Proshine Auto Detailing who donated his time and expertise to getting the car looking shmick again.

There is still some damage to be fixed and parts replaced but I’m absolutely stoked to have the car back

Thanks guys

Any more questions i can clear up just ask.

Cheers boys

Looks as though I jumped the gun, for that I must eat humble pie, and apologize.
I am actually happy to see you have your car back and Shannons were able to make exceptions to their rules in this case.
Good luck with getting it ack to its former glory

I'll bring some for you on our next cruise

Good to hear you got it back, dont suppose you want to disclose a figure for what you bought it back for, even a rough one would suffice?
