Can this big nut master be dated by the numbers stamped on the end, and if so, how?

2nd December 1972
How?
6 = 6th day of the month
M = December A = Jan B = Feb C = March etc etc leave out I etc etc L = November M = December
2 = 1972
A = usually taken to mean AM shift (but not 100% confirmed)

Shouldn't it be 6th December 1972 (not 2nd December 1972)?

I think it says 27J2, then HOLDEN, then something else...its difficult to make out.
I'll try again in daylight.
