Has anyone ever ran 6-1 headers on a lc torana.

Im building my motor using the old johno web site with the as my guide.

The Scream - 250hp+ (for a quicker revving variation on this one try a blue 173 block bored for 186 pistons and 3" crank)
Blue/Black 202 block
Blue/Black 3.25" crank
Blue/black rods
11:1 - 11.5:1 compression
Professionally ported 12 port head w 1.75" and 1.48" valves, or ported YellaTerra 12 port
Fabricated tuned-length IR manifold w/ six Mikuni HSR42s
245 to 250deg @ 0.050" 0.5" to 0.550" lift solid cam
Shaft mount roller rockers
HEI or better ignition (or better still, crank triggered)
1.625" x 28" primary pipe extractors with a single 3" x 15" collector

I have found this to start my header building.

Hi Matthew,

I did hear in the past, that the tuned Exhaust was the way to go, so in this case, you would need all pipes the same length before the collector. Dave I

Sadly, although it would be awesome, i recon you have nill and buckly's of getting six pipes down beside the engine.

Cheers.

The collector could stir higher and a 3 inch could pass no worries. Iv had 6 pipes to a turbo and then a dump pipe down low before.

I know these are not 6 into 1 but it may give you some insight as to what may be involved into fitting a large collector beside a 6 in an LC/LJ. To fit these beside the motor I'm unable to use a winged sump. Not saying it can't be done, but it will be very busy between the chassis rail & motor.

I made a set for my HJ. Sounded totally different... read awsome, but created a LOT of heat, even after wrapping them! I swapped for a set of two piece PaceMakers, and the performance was almost the same, 6-1 had slightly more down low.

My collector was basically 3 on 3, as in flat, not six in a circle, and I made merge points too. I also used the firing order, 153 on top left to right, the 624 on the bottom, right to left, to give it some swirl. And the pipes were all less than a 1/4 inch different in length. No, I didn't take any pics!

They are still screwed to the garage wall.

Yeh, lotsa room certainly helps! I kept the 'pack' as tight as possible though, didn't want it looking like a plumbers nightmare!

My 202 made 300hp with these pipes. In street trim it ran 12.7@109mph in a lc gtr

Matt, they are a custom set for a 9port. I'm not sure on the sizes but a lot bigger than off the self.

Very similar to the pipes i have for my car.

From what i gather good for peak hp, if the lenghs are right of course, chances are they arnt,  but give a pretty narrow rpm band.

Cheers.

but, all this needs a good breathing motor to go with them. Dave I

the second bit, curved around the back of the M22 Gearbox

and was very loud, lovely pipes, and these are 6 into 1 pipes too.

I also ran a Turbo smooth 'S' bend muffler

No there 6-2-1's.

the ones you posted just above in post # 15 are 6-3-1's.

6-1's have no secondary pipes, all the primary pipes feed into one collector then into the tailpipe.

By my limited knowlege, 6-1's set up properly will give the widest torque curve but lower peak hp, 6-2-1 will give a medium, and properly set up 6-3-1's will give you max peak hp but a narrow torque curve.

But im happy to be corrected.

Cheers.

Bingo, you got it now.

I just call that 6-2-1 to make it simple....Probably not the correct term though, the way you spelt it out is probably more correct.

Cheers.

I have an old book somewhere, it goes into deep detail about exhausts. Info about equal length runners, formula for optimum lengths etc. Very interesting will have to find it..

I've just refitted mine. Thought the PMs had sprung a leak... turned out the gasket was the one without the port bridge section. Both ports leaking.

The 6-1 feel so much more refined, easier to rev, smoother from idle.

Nice pipes. Any particular reason for the short collector?
