Got two types here, what can you tell me about them? I presume only the white one can be fitted with new rubber. Cheers. Martyty8y9a3y.jpg

You can leave the one way valves out. Just use fish aquarium one way valves instead in line with the inlet and outlet tube hidden under the dash.

Thanks Dave, great idea. Now does anyone know why there are two different bodies?

The  switch  on  the  right  hand  of  the  picture   was  used  on  series  2  HB  Torana  and  all  LC  Torana .

They  used  the  part  number  2806440.

This  unit  was  a  sealed  type  unit  and  there  fore  un  servicable .

The  LJ  Torana  pump  had  the  3  screws  on  the  back  so  the  plunger  could  be  changed .

The part  number  for  the  LJ  type  switch  was  2818768.

Wether  GMH  changed  supplier  during  this  time  is  un  known  ?

Hope  this  helps.  Regards  LC870

Top quality info. Thanks LC870. I will keep an eye out for another one but failing that use the aquarium valves. Cheers. Marty

Hi

Good luck finding a good one on eBay etc. I have bought 6 over the years and not one worked properly. The sellers feel the resistance of the internal domed diaphragm and believe that that is an indication that the pump is okay.

Cheers

The LJ wiper/washer switch/pump with the three screws was not released into production until early 1973. Up until then all LJ's left the production line with the sealed switch/pump unit.

Guessing you must be looking to keep it original.

When I had my LC one of the first things I did was go electric for the pump.

Don't be disheartened LC870, keep bothering.  S pack Dave has been known to be wrong too. :-)

I'd like the push pump working and that original look. Once it's past the pits I can't see me using it.

The parts books don't tell the whole story.

A GMH document dated March 1973 advises that a revised windscreen washer switch (3 screw type end plate) is soon to be introduced.

The part number didn't change.

I may be wrong but that is the official info I have on hand.

Hey Hutch, let me know. I have posted your lens today, if you haven't posted mine might save on costs.

Cheers

Hi S pack,
For your information the 3 screwed wiper pumps were fitted in early LJ's 72's my 5 month gtr had one and my 9 month xu1 has got one too.
I rebulit the one in my xu1 15 years ago from two other pumps and the same is still fitted to day.
I have owned torana's for 33 years, my gtr for 9 years and the xu1 for 25 years, and have maintained both of them over the years and you believe what a book says...what a crock !!!
So how many years have you owned a torana for???

Regards John.

Hi John

I've owned and maintained my Torana for 34 years, my brothers had LC & LJ Torana's, most of my mates had LJ Torana's and in my youth I spent many a Saturday morning scouring Torana's in wrecking yards for bits and pieces to keep or fix up and sell for a bit of extra coin.

The info I posted is not from 'a book'. It is original GMH documentation.

Regards

Dave.

the LJ one with 3 screws has the number 2818768 stamped on the brass

The LC LJ sealed unit one has the same number then a space and 133 This is cast in the plastic.

Hi John

The proof is in the pudding mate. Both of Marty's wiper/washer switches have the same part number '2818768' so they are both LJ.

The LC LJ sealed unit one has the same number then a space and 133 This is cast in the plastic.

Do you still think the GMH document regarding the revised switch introduced in 1973 is 'a crock'?

I doubt GMH would have wasted money redesigning the switch so it can be serviced unless the Dealers were finding an unusually high number of them were failing  prematurely.

Regards

Dave
