Hi all, I have three dizzys in my possession. Two are Bosch and similar and one is Lucas. Would one of these suit my build? Date stamps don't matter, just looks. I'll get it refurbished and re curved if that is the thing to do?

Joseph Lucas was not known as the "Prince of Darkness" for nothing. Lucas = crap English reliability. Had Lucas electrics in a HZ V8 coz thats what the General fitted to them back then, piece by piece changed to Bosch because of problems, this is your chance to start of with the right stuff.

Hi Dave,

I have points in mine and check the gap every 3 months.
The last set I had in it lasted for 7 years, and the mileage I do every year is 2,500 miles and very well maintained.

Regards John.

Wow John, and thank's Bazza,

well I was using a GT40 Coil and reeving at 7000/7800rpm every time possible,

till the motor does a big end in, and the points always grew a pyramid, and I would file them down till the points were stuffed.

So, it is great to see the other side of the story John, thank's. Dave I

20 motors later hey, still the same

So it is! Not paying attention when taking photo. This 2820111 dizzy you mention, is it only found on GTR or lots of models. (Will it be easy to find or hard)?

Hi

2820111 was standard for all 173 (2850) and 202 (3300) engines including LH,  LX and  HQs etc.

This does not include LJ XU-1s

Cheers

No luck yet. Haven't looked hard so it will be luck if I come across one. Here's a pic of the other one that I was going to photograph. 9y9arajy.jpg. What would happen if I used one of mine? Surely it looks the same and will run the same, just different number. Then I can get this engine cranked up sooner, then just keep an eye out for the real deal.

That dizzy will be ok to fit in your engine. If you are running a different cam it may pay to get it re-graphed at some stage.

this one has the Electronic Ignition Module installed,

but I dare say, you can screw out and screw in the points one, same screws there. Dave I

Thanks for the offer Dave, I may take you up on that.

That polished one, can't see the number but also says to totally rebuilt but condenser wire still looks old.

Stripped and cleaned mine up. Plan is to fit a metal gear and new condenser, points and rotor. I've checked vacuum pot and that seems to hold vacuum. Anything else I need to look out for? Also what lube do I use on moving parts and the felt around shaft? Marty

Hi Marty,
When you checked the vacuum did you see the vacuum plate thats holding points is moving from left to right?
It might be a good idea to clean it and put some machine oil between each plate so it moves ok.
I have seen a lot over the years that have seized up.

Regards John.
