the other day i had the torry on the rollers to see what difference the new manifold makes..made no difference

but this time i watched the fuel pressure at cruise i had 7 psi which dropped to 3 psi at wot

so ive been thinking about an electric pump and where to put it coz there anit much room

directly above diff centre at floor angle bout 50-60 mm clearance

carterpump002_zpscfca9554.jpg

horizontal in the center about the same

carterpump003_zpsa75efd85.jpg

passenger side bracket part of tank breather lines quite good clearance but a pain to route fuel lines

carterpump005_zpsd87d9d2d.jpg

or drivers side where fuel line is but above top control arm about 50-60 mm clearance

Im unsure what pump you are using?
I believe carter pumps have the be vertical. Not horizontal. Same as holley pumps. If there horizontal they get air problems.
I mounted my carter through the floor just under the rear seat driver's side. Its a little noisey but was most practical for me.
If you can find (MY TOY) In members cars. I think I put a pic on there when I done it. If you want better pics lets me know.
Cheers
Jason

though im loathed to cut another hole in the 'ol girl :<_<: i have also seen both Carters an Holleys mounted sideways even upside down

oh and im running a holden mech pump with a hi pressure kit in it

So when you say "Lower than fuel level" would indicate to me that it needs to be Lower Than Fuel Tank ??? which isn't so easy to do if not taking fuel from bottom of tank... Or am I just talking s..t due to Ole No.7. on ice again ??? As Pauline Said "Please Explain" How would one go about drawing fuel out the top of Bathurst tank via carter electric pump.....

Correct.

For the situation you described personally i would use an in tank pump.

THe fuel tank in my car is modded with a bottom feed though, so not really an issue for me personally.

I did it the way i did party because i wanted a somewhat baffled fuel pickup and because i wanted to future proof it for future mods.

If i decide to run an electric pump, i can just change some lines around and mount a pump.

I also had to plum a return in.

If i go efi it would be as simple as plumbing a lift pump in beside the tank, then making a surge tank to fit in the engine bay with the high pressure pump off it, etc etc....

Always thinking ahead hehe

Hose down the bottom of the tank is feed, one that runs to the top near the floorpan is return.

hey Tim.

I wouldnt cut a hole. you would have to seal it for exhaust fumes etc.

i just drilled 3 little holes in the flat area under the rear passenger seat, and mounted it with the rubbers etc that came with it.

The pump sits higher than the trailing arms and it was a easy spot for the lines to run.

also i would think where you are going to put a pre filter before the pump. also add another finer filter closer to the engine.

for added protection. get a couple neo (rear earth) magnets and attach them to the filter. they will stop any metal that may come through the line..

then for wiring i highly recommend these. http://www.ebay.com....82dacca8&_uhb=1

sorry if you know all this, just thought id add it in.

cheers Jason

Yep the Carter pumps are pretty good, you can get away with having them a little higher than ideal, mine's been here for years

Center bump stop looks Hiluxy?

Carter pumps must be pretty special to be able to suck fuel that high, theres no end of threads on this forum and other forums of people complaining about either poor performance or lots of noise etc from there pumps only to turn out there mounted way to high.

What exact model carer pump are you guys running? I'd like to add it to my brayne bank.

Cheers.

no hassles at all i will do a few pics tomorrow for you.

im useing this carter with a regulator. i was told always better to have to much than not enough.

I had the same problem with twin exhaust. couldnt fit it where the above pic is.

the other 2 are the exhaust hanger brackets.

Ah forgot all about the exhaust, used to run under the diff and now goes out the side. The centre bump stop is standard but I cut it down a little, sway bar is a Commodore style one which offers enough clearance. Not sure what you mean by other two? Unless you're talking about the exhaust hanger brackets a bit further forward, which are factory?

Not sure what you're asking? Page 196 of the LX parts manual shows the exhaust mounting, only cars with twin exhaust got the exhaust hangers on both sides - they just bolt onto the holes on the side of the upper arm mounts. Four cylinder cars only got a basic hook setup rather than the proper version as above.

The diff bump stop is on page 362, seems to suggest that it was 5L V8 only? I do recall reading somewhere in these forums that not all cars got this. Mine is an early LX 253 SS but it may have been added. All these parts are bolt on so could have been added/removed/modified easily over the years.

ok thanks..i think possibly mine had the exhaust hangers(maybe) and were removed by the guy who put a full stainless 2" exhaust on 25 years ago

as for the centre pump stop i never had it or anywhere to bolt it ..its all just smooth floor there

mine is a legit LX SS 4.2ltr early.. maybe the earliest 2/76?
